so i plan to take advantage of a free manicure and have it done professionally. it was really hard for me to do on my own. there are things that help though. i bet it would have been 100% easier if i had thought of using tape to cover the bottom half while i painted!

I read an article about how the web site was a huge hit. You can make your own professional hair color and they have experts to help you. It's around $20 bucks, but it was pretty interesting adding all my stuff into their site to see my own haircolor.

I have been out of work on disability since last Fall and am returning to work in July. Since I have been semi-homebound, I haven't had my hair done in months. Just didn't care, and now don't want to spend the money until right before I go back to work.
My hair is naturally medium brown. I always had light blonde highlights, and typically if I get too blonde, I get highlights and lowlights. I have well water that gets rusty, and even with the 2 water treatments I use, my blonde ends can turn slightly reddish/orange. About a month ago I bought boxed haircolor - Medium Ash Brown. It came out ok, although it looked too dark initially. Now that it is fading I am seeing an orange tone, mostly where the highlights were. Since I have 2 months before going to my salon, I want to color it again myself, but I was advised against using Ash Brown by a former hairdresser. She doesn't know how to use foils, so it has been years since she did hair. I really just want to cover the orangish tone in an easy, inexpensive, and temporary way. I don't want anything funky, just a decent color to get me through. My hair is in pretty good shape. Any ideas? What about toner? Blonde? I would really appreciate input from anybody with experience doing their own hair or by a professional. I certainly will consider all sugestions. Cannot take this orange shit another day.
I got a box of a dark brownish/purpley hair color but realized that it was meant for dark hair. I want to use it on the top half of my hair that is not dark....what will happen if I do?

I do the black all of the time!!so, by some small miracle, i just stopped biting my nails (a lifelong habit) last month. i just stopped. there was no thought put into it... i just looked down one day and noticed my nails were past the tips of my fingers. i've been trying to keep them looking nice ever since that day, but i have found that it's way to troublesome to keep them painted in full. they chip at the base as the nail grows and i have to re do them everyday.
i did this thing (which is really difficult to do - for me) and i think it's cute and stays longer than full polish. i want your opinion:
i swiped the tips with red. once it dried, i took a q-tip and remover and cleaned it up, forming a crescent toward the tip - like a red french mani. then i did two coats of a clear matte finish. as the nails grow, i use a cotton and remover to even it out by the cuticle and re matte it with another two coats.
i've had mixed reviews from people i have shown it to. my mom says it looks like i have bloody finger tips.here's a picture from the internet:

Any dye with lavender undertones will balance the coppery red. Ash blonde would be good. Just don't use box dye. Use salon color.
i went to the hairdresser yesterday and had my hair cut and dyed. it's now a wonderful shade of dark brown and she just trimmed the ends and gave it some shape because i'm trying to grow it long.
this is the first time i've actually had my hair done at a salon. i've done box colors but it always seems to fade and look horrible so i just go back to something that sorta matches my original. the hairdresser said that she did some deep conditioning thing that locks in the color and told me not to wash it for 2 or three days. i was concerned that when i go dark, when my light roots come through it looks like i'm going bald - she said that i can come back in a month, or whenever my roots start coming in and she'd tell me which box color to use to cover the roots. i was surprised she suggested doing it myself, but i think it was really nice of her not to try to milk me for a $60 touch up, or however much it costs.
it really looks nice i want to keep it as long as possible. i mean, man! my hair has never seemed nicer or healthier. anyone familiar with coloring lighter hair dark? how do i keep the color looking so pretty?
You didn't reply to me directly, but you answered my question perfectly. I understood that Ash or Cooler shades are best to prevent reddish/orange tones. I will take your advice and get salon color, not a box. My hair lightened up from the medium ash brown, so I don't know whether to color it darker again or go lighter. I want to get rid of the orange tint, so if I want to go lighter, what shade would you recommend? I just don't want my hair to turn green or fall out. Thank you so much.
Try shampoo for color treated hair to see if it helps, and don't shampoo daily. I don't recall what brand worked the best, but I almost always use Salon products. I always had the opposite problem, dark roots. Now after using a darker color to cover the blonde highlights, my color is fading to orangish tint. One more time on my own, then back to my hairdresser. She is cool with how she charges me for touch-ups too. Ethical people do exist.
i'm seeing this... i've always been afraid of committing to real hair dressing because of the upkeep costs and all. this woman was really nice, explained a bunch to me and made me feel comfortable with her advice. i did buy a shampoo from her. i figure that if i was going to put in an initial investment, i should go all the way and actually follow the advice instead of thinking i know better or trying to get off cheap. if i do everything she says and it still ends up crap within the next few weeks, i guess i'll have my answer and know better next time.
i have a good feeling though.
btw: here are a few things to look into... use a lavender toner on your hair to get rid of the brass and even out the tone before re-dying. if you are going darker, look into a getting protein filler to add to the hair dye. it's supposed to help your hair accept the dye better.

Thanks Ani, my hairdresser puts a toner in when I get highlights, and these articles are great.
I did some reading on dry skin because I used an electric fireplace this winter, and my skin is still showing the effects. I tried 2 things that worked exceptionally well. Olive and Cannola oil. They seem to retain the moisture in my skin, and the greasy look and feel go away relatively quickly. Much better than any decent lotion I ever used or baby oil.
I loved BB cream but my face HATES it! I second the Monistat chafing gel as primer!
i got both milk of mag and monistat. i tried using the MoM before bed, as recommended by my sis, and the monistat as a primer, and one or the other fucked up my face so i stopped both. i think i need to go back and re-try one at a time and find out what exactly did it. i ended up with a series of huge painful underskin zits, but the rest of my face was wonderful. who knows. maybe i just need to avoid the chin area.
bb doesn't float my boat. i think i'm a spackle kinda girl. i think fleta mentioned that the kind i got wasn't the most effective though so perhaps i should try something not maybaline.

Not only that I use it for lots of stuff. Diaper rash on young-ins...and on feet under a new pair of shoes...keeps blisters from forming. Spackle broke me out :( pretty much everything does but I'm very guilty of buying a lot of new products, using them together and then not knowing which one is the culprit

I did not put any type of oil on my face. I just used it for my body. Same here with oil on the face, I just use regular lotion or specific face cream. I was lmao putting on the olive oil.
