If I feel something is directed at me, I will defend myself. Anyways, nothing about it means anything now, it's old news. I try to be very respectful to everyone on these threads, sometimes I might fail at that but I will be the first to admit it if I do.

That shit is hard! Congrats on the 4 days. I made it 3 months before then some nice friend of mine invited me out to happy hour and a borrowed cig turned into a pack by the end of the night. Ugggg...I hate smoking but its so hard to quit!

@Shins, I do see why you said what you did about what faq said. I've read around the main Jodi thread a lot and have gotten to know faq a bit, though he doesn't know me since I haven't posted much. The reason the line you bolded stood out to me when I read his original post is that I thought, whoa! Did faq really just say that?? I think he said it in response to others, and was being direct yet friendly. He really is a great guy and I guarantee he's not trying to be an asshole. Give him a chance; he's very likeable, intelligent, and respectful. He's offered a lot of great discussion here. I truly don't think he's taking things personally.

I give everyone a chance. I've never said anything derogatory to/about faq. I just see a pattern in his responses and I'm shedding some light.

I quit cold turkey 4 years ago this August. I was a fucking mess when I first quit, so I know what you are going through. If you need any tips/advice on how to make the experience less shitty pm me, I may be able to help. I should also add that out of all the smokers in my friends and family, people thought I would be the last person to quit. I loved my cigs.

Thank Raina, I appreciate the gesture. Shins obviously thinks differently and she is entitled to her opinion. I'm good with it, Green and I exchanged some PM's and I think it was settled out of court

Not that your opinion means that much to me but I will try to make peace and say that I hope we can coexist in the threads we populate together. I am not on a witch hunt and I hope you are not as well. Since there is no handshake emoticon this will have to do. Peace!

Angie-Girrrl I do love cigs. I quit for an array of reasons but to be honest I didn't really want to. I liked doing it. I'll pm you!

FAQ, it is hard. And it sucks. See I was telling myself that I could have one every once in awhile but after your story maybe that is a bad idea?

Rock- I've heard chantix makes people sick? Is that true? I always knew that if I wanted quit it'd have to be cold turkey. I'd love an ecig. Or some suckers. Something!

I gotta hear the story about the Chantix. My wife and I tried that together shortly after we met. It works like a charm. I did not want a cig, I didn't even want to drink. We, however wanted to kill each other. It was destroying our relationship basically before it started. We finally came to the realization after a knock down drag out fight that it was better to smoke than to end up in jail or worse.

Chantix made me feel like crap. I felt like I was going to have a stroke, I had intense headaches with pressure at the base of my skull. That was the physical response. My mental response is what made me stop taking it. It turned me into super bitch, complete with the cape blowing in the wind. I was a week into it and I was having a slight argument with my brother over the phone. I heard some person screaming at the top of their lungs, almost sounding like a dog barking, it took me a minute to realize it was me. Annnnd that was when I stopped taking Chantix.

Chantix is bad news. It causes all kinds of behavioral side effects. I think the length of time a person has been smoking is a major factor of how good their chances are of successfully quitting are. I smoked for 11 years which isn't that long compared to most people.

I have to admit, when I find people over at the main Jodi thread who contribute something valuable, I feel a little protective! I find a lot of them over on this thread.

I've been struggling with smoking. I've heard lots of horror stories about Chantix. I got a self-hypnosis CD set, which I've skimmed but haven't really used - you gotta commit to doing it a few times a day.

The main thing it says that struck home to me is that the urge after the first 3 days is purely psychological, not physical, because the nicotine leaves your body pretty quickly. If this hypnosis thing works, then it reprograms the psychological addiction. But it takes work, which it should.

Obviously I really have to want to quit to make the commitment. If it works, I'll be shouting it from the rooftops. If it doesn't, that'll be $40 that I could have spent on cigarettes.

I agree that it's totally psychological. Physically I feel awesome...i can breathe better, my stomach doesn't hurt constantly, i'm not tired all day, I just overall feel better. But I want to slap a bitch. And then cry about it.

I took an antibiotic that I had a similar reaction to rockabilly. My husband at the time was legit afraid of me. On the commercials for chantix they list a bunch of psych type side effects. I'm crazy enough...do not want.

Was it Levaquin? That's one of its lovely side effects.

A friend of mine and I attendee a highly touted, highly advertised, quit smoking hypnosis workshop at a resort once. Mind you, it was for free so what the heck right? We sat there for 3 hours listening to this guy and supposedly being hypnotized then the next 30 minutes were about buying his cd to continue with the treatment. I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story with the secret decoder for Little Orphan Annie. A crumby commercial! Son of a bitch!

    Well, it's obvious, isn't it?

When you are ready to quit you will know it. i was smoking a cig on my front porch and i had this weird feeling that was going to be my last cig-and i was ok with that. The first step is you have to want to quit! What I did to help me to continue to not smoke was I read all the information about how smoking damages your body from every angle. That really helped.

We had a MDS-er who lost a family member to suicide while he was on Chantix.

    Anyone here try Wellbutrin (zyban)?

I wanted to try the buproprion but I know the side effects from that are just as bad as Chantix. It is an antidepressant, that can cause suicidal depression.

That's terrible. It is on the side effects disclaimer, at least it is now. I had heard of it happening. I tried Wellbutrin for 6 months but lost interest in sex....and I for one would rather die than to give that up! Of course everyone's body reacts to drugs differently so what works for some, might not work for others. I keep on thinking that something is out there for me that will help but so far either they have the sexual side effects or I feel ultra aggressive. Cold turkey might be the only way and that was when I was mostly successful but I enjoy drinking from time to time and cigs and drinks go hand in hand. Anyone have success quitting cold turkey and also trying to continue drinking occasionally?

Every time I go out drinking I want a cig. Even almost 4 years after I quit. I don't go out and drink often-but when I do drink it's hardcore drinking. I tell my bf not to let me smoke but he does anyway, then I feel like total shit the next day. I always want to smoke when I drink cause it takes me from the buzzed state to the semi drunk but feeling good state in 2 minutes.

I wish I could help there Faq, but from drinking pretty heavily like a year ago and getting violently ill every time I can't drink anymore. But my bf drinks frequently and he smokes so if he quits one...you would think if the other would be a "trigger"? That would be rough.

And the mental side effects with the meds is just too scary to me. I don't need help not wanting to live.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like it will be hard either way. I also have to get my wife on board so that will add another whole element to it since she remembers last time and the challenges it created.
