EXCLUSIVE: How Cleveland 'kidnapper' told his wife what to eat, how to wear her skirts,
even ordered her into a cardboard box and eventually he 'killed her'

Ariel Castro, pictured bottom right with his bandmates in 1998, was 'obsessive' about ordering around his first wife Grimilda Figueroa, left, to the point where he once ordered her to get into a cardboard box and only come out when he said so. Speaking to MailOnline, Grimilda's sister Elida Caraballo, top right, 44, said: 'My sister would be alive today if it wasn't for him.

I hate to bash on the mom........but she sounds like a huge piece of , ugh, work! Why does the mom have an attorney? Call me crazy, but something sounds off.

CLEVELAND - Barbara Knight said she can't get information from police or the hospital on her daughter. She said she is desperate to get in touch with her daughter.
Michelle Knight was released from the hospital Friday and is in good spirits. She released a statement thanking the community for the flowers, gifts, and support. She continues to ask for privacy, and that request has her mother upset.
Barbara Knight lives in Florida and came to Cleveland to see her daughter, tell her she loves her, and get Michelle the help she needs. But Barbara has not been able to do that. Family members said Knight doesn’t want to see her family.
Barbara and her lawyer have been unable to get information from the hospital and police. She said she couldn’t even deliver flowers because Michelle wasn’t taking visitors.
“Barbara Knight is a mother whose daughter has lived through hell. The actual hell. Worse than we can imagine. It was hell for her, too. She came up to be with her daughter, to hug her, to help her heal. She’s been stonewalled down the line. I don’t know why and I know it’s abhorrent,” Barbara’s attorney Jay Milano explained.
The family didn't even know Michelle was released from the hospital.
Metro Health Medical Center said Knight is an adult who is able to make her own decisions. The hospital is there to protect a patient’s rights.
Barbara said she feels she has rights, too, as a mom.
“I’m not saying Michelle is legally incompetent. That’s baloney. But nothing she says is reliable. Anyone that damaged doesn’t have a handle on what they need,” Milano said.
Barbara Knight reported her daughter missing in 2002. The case stayed open until she was found. However, 15 months into the investigation Cleveland police removed Knight’s name from the FBI database of missing people. Police said this is protocol because they could not reach Knight’s mother by phone to confirm she was still unaccounted for.
    Milano said that’s not true.
“Barbara says nobody contacted her back then. She lived in the same house for years. When she left, her family still lived there. She would be easy to find. They’re the Cleveland police. They could have found the mother,” Milano explained.
Milano said the mother and daughter got along and did not have a strained relationship.
“Ten years of hell have passed. Family is important to the healing process,” Milano explained.
Barbara said she will stay in Cleveland as long as it takes to get her daughter the help she needs.

Yep, that's all I need to know. Her missing daughter is removed from the missing list, she spends NO TIME OR ENERGY trying to locate her child, and she wonders why Michelle won't see her? Bitch needs to kick rocks.

Michelle will be living with Gina and her family. I hope they take good care of her. I want to take good care of her. Poor baby.

Because she does. You let your daughter go missing and don't look for her? Then you allow her case to become inactive and don't seek to reinstate her missing status for over 10 years? Then you obtain a lawyer when she's found and hospitalized? I hate her.

Yep. If she was actively looking and/or working with the local police, she would know Michelle was removed from the FBI missing persons list (and she wouldn't have been removed in the first place). She says the police could of found her when she moved to Florida. Sooooo, the police didn't know she moved to Florida. If I were moving, I would contact the police to let them know. I probably wouldn't move in the first place, but meh.

I'm going to predict that her Mom is going to try and have declared legally incompetent so she can try and get her big pay day and get her hands on donation money.

Her mother is a piece if shit.

I hope that Michelle Knight is going to live with the DeJesus family, she would be wrapped in love there.

Yes, glad to know she's where she wants to be. Has anyone started a fundraiser?

Also, the video that came on after this, about teenage girls getting into cars with strangers, is a must to watch.

Michelle most probably has the help of a victim's advocate by now. The first interview I saw of the mom, she said, "I hope we can get over our differences, whatever they are." Something was going on before the kidnapping.

The real heroes in this are the three women, especially Perry who tried to escape even knowing the captor would 'test' them if he left... I would have done what Ramsey did in that situation. I think that's why we admire him because he did what most of us would if we could: help.

I figured something was wrong with her mother after hearing the brother say he has been estranged from her, and never even knew his sister was missing. How does a family get like this in the first place?

There is an organization that has arranged a fund and it is called The Cleveland Courage Fund.

This story is such a tragedy, but the story that is emerging about Michelle is just gut-wrenching. It seems that even now, the people who are supposed to do the most for her, like her mother, just want to use her. I am so grateful that she is with Gina's family, who will help her as they help their own child.

    Tragic!

The mom is a POS. she's going to try to cash in on her daughter.

I can imagine it will be very hard or impossible for these 3 girls to stay away from each other. I bet they share a deep connection with each other. Michelle probably feels lost without her sisters.

My guess, though, is that there will be a period of estrangement because of how much they remind each other of something so terrible.

Cleveland kidnap, rape victim Michelle Knight was gang-raped while in junior high
Washington, May 10 (ANI): Michelle Knight, one of the three women abducted and held as sex slaves in a Cleveland home for roughly a decade, was gang-raped while in junior high school.

A year before Knight was abducted in August 2002, she was gang-raped while in junior high school and bore a child as a result of the ordeal, her great-aunt has said.

The boy, who she named Joey, was later taken from her and placed in foster care.

According to the New York Daily News, Deborah Knight, 62, said that Knight was a delightful girl, outgoing and was very helpful.

She said that all that changed when three classmates "grabbed her by the arm and raped her at the school."

Then, when Knight was at her lowest, Ariel Castro slithered into her life for 10 years, police said.

Her abduction, imprisonment and rape by Castro ended on Monday, when she and two other women escaped from Castro's house in Cleveland.

Also liberated was a 6-year-old girl born to one of Knight's two fellow captives. Knight, now 32, was forced to serve as a midwife during the delivery.

Freddie Knight, 30, the brother of Michelle Knight, visited her in the hospital on the night that she was rescued.

He said that her sister wants to start a new life, have the whole family there. (ANI)

Melanie Eversley & Yamiche Alcindor USA TODAY

CLEVELAND - As details trickle in about Michelle Knight, the oldest and longest held of the three women rescued after more than a decade of being held captive in Cleveland, a picture emerges of a young woman who led a troubled life before she vanished on Aug. 23, 2002.

On Thursday night, Knight was reportedly being treated at a hospital. The other two women and a child borne to one of them during their time in captivity have returned home.

Knight, now 32, was bullied in high school, dropped out, became pregnant and had her toddler son taken from her by authorities before she was last seen at a cousin's house in Cleveland.

In seeming step with the rocky turns her life appears to have taken, Knight's disappearance did not receive much publicity.

Reports indicate that her life in captivity was just as hard. She reportedly became pregnant five times while in captivity, miscarrying after alleged regular beatings by suspect Ariel Castro, that also left her with hearing loss, The Plain Dealer reports.

But members of the Cleveland community tried to make up for some of those troubles Thursday night by releasing balloons in an open field in honor of Knight and the other two women rescued, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus. Those gathered said they especially wanted to honor Knight to make up for the lack of attention she received while missing.

"It's in support of her," said organizer Loretta Freeman.

As the crowd formed a circle and readied themselves to release the balloons, Knight's grandmother, Deborah Knight, 62, joined them. She spoke through tears from the center of the crowd.

"I'm overwhelmed," Deborah Knight said. "I want to hug and keep her close to me."

Knight, however, said she had not seen Michelle yet and could not comment further.

In the several days last week that the rescue has received attention worldwide, the least has been revealed about Knight.

Michelle's mother, Barbara Knight of Naples, Fla., says her daughter spent most of her life on Cleveland's West Side, helping her mother work in her vegetable garden.

She was enthralled with fire engines that would race down her street and settled on becoming a firefighter after a tour of a fire station, Barbara Knight told The Plain Dealer. Later, after helping her mother deliver a litter of puppies, she changed her mind and decided she'd become a veterinarian.

At 17, she told her mother she'd been assaulted, but she felt the incident was not taken seriously by police, Barbara Knight told the news organization. The mother later believes that an abusive man with whom she had a relationship abused Michelle Knight's toddler son.
Some thought Knight's disappearance was related to her son being taken, Barbara Knight has said.

Tiffani White, Deborah White's granddaughter, tells The Daily Beast no one was looking for Michelle Knight.

"I want her to know that there is someone there for her," Tiffani White says. "We want her home."

Michelle Knight's twin brother, Freddie Knight, told CNN, "My sister is going to move on, forget the past ... leave it behind, start anew."

I wish that FOUR of them and their loves ones could go to place like Jaycee Dugard did to get treatment, privacy and time to begin to try to put their lives back together.

Let's not forget poor little Jocelyn who has never been school, never had playmates, etc.

I wonder if in his sick mind he favored Amanda? She was allowed to carry a child to birth and he told Michelle, "I will kill you if that baby dies".

For all the psychological torture alone, I would want him to get the death penalty.

Ariel Castro's daughter serving 25 years in prison for slashing her baby's throat

The daughter of the suspected ring leader in the kidnapping case of three Cleveland women was convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in 2008 for trying to murder her then 11-month-old baby, The Daily Mail reports.
Emily Castro, 24, slashed her daughter Janyla's throat in April 2007 following a breakup with the child's father.

Court documents state that police were called to Emily's home in Fort Wayne, Ind. - where she moved after she became pregnant - when a passerby saw a woman running through the street with a bleeding baby in her arms, according to The Daily Mail.
The woman was Emily's mother, Grimilda Figeroa, who told police that her daughter stabbed and slashed her own child.

I guess it's entirely possible one of the girls would want to stay apart from the others. I think it is really amazing that Gina's family wants Michelle.

For some reason, I think Michelle tried to protect the other girls, and maybe tried to redirect Castro's attention off of them.
