when my grandma first got her chair. She hated it and most of the time would refuse to use it, but when we took her out where she would need to stand for longer periods of time, she would use it.
Someone said it is a pretty common trick used to garner sympathy, but I have no idea.

I believe she's attempting to express a Mormon sentiment I've heard from my adoptive daughter who was baptized Mormon a few years ago.

Really? Then it's a sentiment I've never heard, and I've been in the church 30 years...

It's a fairly common statement said by people who want attention by using the threat of suicide or who are in depression. Often expressed after someone commits suicide as well. That this life was a "prison" for them and they wanted release - which is actually literal instead of metaphorical in JA's case.

The church is anti suicide and thinks life is very important and should not be wasted. "Men are that they might have joy" - we don't see life as a prison to be freed from, we are supposed to see life as a great blessing and opportunity. To find joy and live well. So no, this is not a mormon sentiment.

This may not be very popular of me to say but here goes. I disagree with them taking all her commissary money. She obviously had funds in there received from family, friends, JAII nuts and from the sale of her "art" and "panties". If they could take away the amount they feel was from the art and panties and leave the rest would be appropriate. The things they buy in the commissary are at less than cost and $50 would go a long way. If her mom puts $ in there for her to buy shampoo, snacks or other basic needs, should be left there. If I put a hard earned $50 in a relative's account -- it doesn't mean I think they are innocent or that I disagree with the verdict. It means I believe as human beings we can at least agree even the lowest of lows deserve a bar of soap now and then. Otherwise we would not be any better than those third world prisons. We are Americans. Now don't go twistin' my words....I am not saying she should have luxuries of any kind.
OK, have at me. I have just expressed my opinion.....ready to handle the fallout.

Isnt she given all that though? Soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, decent amount of calories a day. I thought anything being bought was extra. She does not deserve anything extra. She deserves the bare minimum IMO

Sorry, didn't notice the quote you posted below. I think these are two separate things and I don't think that was what she was going for. I think she is just trying to make it seem like she WANTS death because it is the easier way out - hoping the jury then decides to give her life. I don't see any religious ties.

But yes, we do believe in life after death and in rewards or punishments for the actions you took in this life. We do believe in resurrection and in eternal families...so that aspect is true. But I think its not what Stabby was referring to. Just MHO. :)
