Possible Punishment for First Degree Murder in the State of Arizona
With regard to First-Degree Murder, there are only three possible penalties: the minimum sentence is life imprisonment with no possibility of parole until twenty-five (25) years of ?day-for-day? prison time has been served; ?natural life?, which involves life in prison without the possibility of parole; and the maximum is ?Capital Punishment? (i.e., the Death Penalty). The most important role of an attorney in a First-Degree Murder case is to attempt to get the prosecutor to take the Death Penalty off of the table. The Death Penalty is the most severe punishment known to man, and takes an extreme toll on the defendant and their family. Skilled negotiators are important to convince the prosecution that Death Penalty is not warranted in this case, nor is it a possible result in this case, to ensure that the judge and jury do not even have the option of imposing the death penalty.

Legally you can't deny her materials needed for appeal. I'm sure she will milk that for everything she can.

This is not a thread for complaining about being noobs. The case is over and you guys are welcome to discuss the verdict etc but if you continue fighting about off topic bullshit, I will start deleting, warning, and then banning.

Please for the love of God, take the bickering to PM's! I would really like to hear Ian's observations from the courthouse today before the thread is shut down from this crap, thanks.

Is there going to be another jury for penalty phase or are they still under the admonition?

Same jury, judge Stephens mentioned after the verdict that they are still under admonition. They will remain that way till they are dismissed from duty.

    Fan Fiction

I really wanted to call this 'A thread for people with less of a life than Travis Alexander' but I resisted. Here you guys can go nuts, but also please go outside at least once this weekend.

I respectfully beg to differ with you boweiluva. Here's one you set up yourself for "us"

Thank you. I'm pm'ing the worst offenders right now. Just because this is judgement day doesn't mean we throw decorum and rules out the window.

So the next part of this.... when they go in tomorrow, is it just like a hearing or is it presenting more evidence, witnesses, and so forth? Is the sentencing at the same time as the aggravating factors (or what ever it called) or is it going to be another time?
How long does it take (usually) to come to a decision on what the penalty is going to be?

Im sorry if this has already been discussed, there was so much when I got back, it makes my head hurt just thinking of trying to read it all

Karma is only a bitch if you are!

I would respectfully point out that the case is not actually over at all. There are still two more phases to the trial, the Aggravation Phase, and then the Mitigation Phase. During those phases, the penalty for Jodi Arias will be determined.

There are probably at least a couple weeks left of active, daily testimony, complete with more jury deliberations.

Exactly THIS. Give her the death penalty! Watch her fight and fight and fight to avoid going to the chair, or the chamber or whatever it is... She just says that so someone will say aha! she doesn't want to suffer in prison all her life... so let's give her LWOP so she will suffer. please. she is so transparent.

I am so confused with the people who said there wasn't evidence of premeditation, but then totally belived that Travis was a pedo and an abuser with absolutely not a shred of evidence except for the words of a pathological liar. :

From the impression I got, you are right. She certainly appeared to conduct herself as though it was all about her--and the minions were there to serve.

I remember so clearly my conversation with Jodi Arias when she moved into my ward. I remember the time I met Travis. I remember the day I learned he died. I remember when Jodi was arrested and I was shocked. I thought she was innocent at first?and then came the lies, changing stories and all the evidence.

From now on I will remember the day she was found GUILTY of first degree murder. I will remember the looks of relief on the faces of his family and close friends. I will remember that Justice was served in this case, though it has failed in others. I will remember the battle fought by Juan Martinez and Detective Flores. And I will pray that his family finds peace.
