So how are these jurors supporting their families? I know if I get selected for jury duty, my work supplements my income but not all places do that??

The jurors who lose salary can file for compensation.

I dont think there was ever a rope. I think Jodi made that up to have a reason for the knife. IMO she would have had Travis take pictures of it. I dont think there is anyway she would let him tie her up and not take a picture. There is also (as far as I have seen) no rope in any of the pictures they did take. So I just can't see it being there.

I agree. That is part of what makes her such a fascinating specimen. I think that her glibness and ability to lie on the fly has worked well for her all her life. She is so manipulative, and is able to act so sincere, that I bet in the past when she got in a jam, she was able to get out of it with her lies and fake sincerity. She thought it would work this time too, which I think is a big part of why she did not request an attorney for several days.

I noted that part as well, as being totally unbelievable. Who can wait 10 to 20 minutes to puke if they are feeling sick? A minute, to dash to the bathroom, maybe (depending on just how sick one is feeling), but 10 to 20 minutes? Nope, not buying it.

Fascinating. Thank you for sharing that tidbit. Her saying she was getting a lawyer does not mean it was true, since she lies about everything, however, the fact that she would even threaten it is very intriguing. It means whatever Travis was threatening to expose about her was pretty significant.

Wasn't the van already packed up?
I had assumed JM asked those questions to show that unlike many domestic violence victims, Jodi was not trapped in a house with him, or depending on him for her financial support? That is the reason some domestic violence victims stay with an abuser, because they don't have another place to go, or another way to live. He did not say that was why he was asking, I just assumed.

I agree. I am always puzzled by the people who say "well, if she drove there to kill him, why didn't she kill him immediately?" Um.... lots of reasons. Most important, she did not want to get caught. Duh. If the only thing Jodi cared about was killing him, then there would have been no need for gas cans, or cell phones turned off, or anything else sneaky. Just drive there and blow his brains out the instant he opens the door. However, Jodi wanted to kill him and not get caught. Also, I think she wanted him to know why he was being killed. Shooting him while he was asleep would not have been as satisfying. Finally, I think she honestly wanted to stab him to death. It is so much more personal, and has symbolic overtones as well. And in order to stab him to death while he was awake and knew what was happening and why, she HAD to get him in a vulnerable position to have the advantage.

Exactly. And with walls on either side of the shower door opening, he was well and truly trapped. Jodi never believed he would set foot out of the shower once she started her attack. I bet she was stunned, and panicked, and totally furious when he had the nerve to escape the shower stall and spoil her plan.

I completely agree. FAR too low of a dollar amount for jurors. Crazy.

I've never been notified to serve on a jury, thankfully, and hopefully never am. I'd just state that I hate all cops and law enforcement and wouldn't be impartial whatsoever so I'd be withdrawn from consideration.

Lunch probably costs them close to $12 a day. It's insulting.

The case I was called for was expected to go about 3 weeks ? it was a DUI with aggravated assault charges. Judge Stephens (same judge as with JA) asks you a lot of questions to determine eligibility. After telling you the assumed length of the trial, one of the first questions she asks is about financial capability. She asks if it would be a financial hardship. A lot of hands are raised and she asks for specifics.

People that own their own businesses and have other employees to run it are often considered available. Those who are unemployed (especially if receiving unemployment) are as well. Some are stay-at-home and have kids in school so they could do the hours required. Some are retired or disabled and are not dependent on job incomes. The judge decides if they have a reason that makes it impossible for them.

My hubby was a full-time student and I was our soul source of income at the time and that didn?t excuse me from the trial. What did excuse me is the fact I had friends and loved one hit by drunk drivers and that I have ZERO tolerance for someone who decides to drive drunk ? the guy was already guilty to me, so I was definitely not unbiased. The defense crossed me off their list pretty quickly after that discovery. ;)

    O/T (PARTIALLY)
Agreed. It's pretty much the same here, & it's completely O/T but having spent 4days not long ago with all the little towns around us on virtual lockdown in a catastrophic fire danger emergency, I can't help but be reminded that most of the firies that held back a 9300 hectare bushfire for us, don't get paid even that. They leave paid jobs, sometimes for weeks, face an absolute hell - I mean 43?c is a day to be in front of your air con, not in heavy overalls holding back a wall of flame. It must be like walking in to hell & here at least, they do it all for free. makes me sick to see the government $$ showered on some things, while volunteers get a pittance, or worse & it the seems it's the same the world over

I have a summons for jury duty this Wednesday, but actually want to sit on a jury! I get paid time off from my employer for this and wouldn't mind doing my civic duty. Besides I hat the project I am currently on and could use some time away.

Thanks guys, I've wondered about these jurors and how frustrating it must be to have short days or headache days all the while losing money.

I considered that she actually had a rope for a while too. As you said, to have a knife handy. But after I discussed it with some posters here, I agreed that it was likely never there at all. It is always possible that it was though. I really have no idea. This whole trial has made my head spin!

I think that if a juror is

    a) not getting paid by an employer,
    b) is not on Unemployment,
    c) is not on Disability, or
    d) is not retired,

then he/she should get paid minimum wage for all hours served at the court during the trial, if the trial lasts more than 3 days. Plus transportation costs.

I think it would be reasonable to consider juror time "worth" minimum wage.

The sound I'm referring to is from the shooter's perspective. From inside an insulated home, 6 inch studs, stucco exterior the sound will be attenuated outside of that structure.

But for the shooter, the sound is hearing damaging loud. Indoors it would be much worse.

That's a good point regarding her wanting him to know why he was being killed. We all know how verbose Jodi is and how she must share her every thought with the world. For example, her journals, her 18 page letter to his family, her testimony going all the way back to how she liked crayons as a child, her lengthy emails to Travis/Abe, her manifesto, etc. I get the feeling that she was threatening Travis in those pictures on June 4 and likely had plenty to say to him, ad nauseam; he looks scared/concerned to me. We'll never really know the full truth of what he went through that day. But, he sure had her pegged in that 5/26 message. Glad he was able to tell her what a shit she is.

are we to assume that since a verdict hasn't been announced as of yet a vote has been taken and it's not unanimous?

I've shot a gun (357) in the basement once. My husband set something up so his mother and I could each take a shot so we would know what to expect if we ever had to shoot it. It wasn't that loud, as I remember. I was upstairs when she shot it, it was just a pop. We were concerned that neighbors would hear, but really it wasn't very loud. People wear the ear protection at target practice because the shots are repetitive. One shot won't cause hearing damage.

The longer they deliberate, the more nervous I get.

I realize this is a far bigger case, but part of what makes me nervous is my own experience on a jury. It was a DUI manslaughter/vehicular homicide case and it lasted almost three weeks. Some of the testimony was so boring and over our heads, that it was hard to make sense of it all at times. I can't imagine what these jurors are feeling.

When we first started deliberations, all but 2 of us were ready to convict for the biggest charge. We knew that right off the bat. We then spent several hours deliberating to try and get a unanimous decision and it took about 6 hours to do so. We ended up convicting of the lesser crime.

I guess my point is that I am guessing there is at least one juror that is in disagreement with the majority and I worry they will either come to a compromise (lesser offense) or be a hung jury. I would think that if they were all in agreement on a verdict, we would have known by now since it would basically be a matter of selecting a foreman and signing the papers.

Again, this is purely speculative and me being a worry wart. I followed the Casey Anthony trial very closely since it was local and I was so disappointed when she was found not guilty.

IMO, add in the deadening sound (no pun intended) of water running and the insulation of the fiberglass shower stall and I don't think the noise would be as loud as you think if you were not in the bathroom with Jodi, Travis and the gun.
a 25 sounds like a cap gun. It's not very loud at all.
