The reason I ask is that if the neglect was prominent (assuming he also experienced physical abuse/witness to DV), then this would tend to condition him to being needy/clingy/insecure in intimate relationships as opposed to being an angry controller. This would be particularly true if the neglect was prevalent throughout all the years before he went to his grandmother's at age 8/
All of the above. And I feel his reason for part of the insecurities was he had to fight his way to a decent life and secure his place in society on his own. He didn't have to put any effort to "get" Jodi. Jodi was likely the first one to pursue him instead of vice versa.

Based on that post, it sounds like physical abuse, verbal abuse, neglect, and domestic violence were mixed together pretty evenly for Travis in his early years, sadly. His thoughts about his grandfather match up with research on abused kids which indicates that one of the important protective factors for these children is to have at least one stable adult in their life who cares about them.

That definitely seems to be the case with Travis. Those rare moments with his grandfather, who uttered those supportive, encouraging words to him on each visit, took root in Travis. This short story he wrote in that blog post is actually a really great illustration of the effect of just one caring adult in the life of an abused and neglected child.
as always, Metis, nothing less than a brilliant post!

I think Travis was the best thing that ever happened to Jodi. when he finally woke up to just how "evil" she is, he let her know in no uncertain terms: "you are the worst thing that has ever happened to me".
She must have really done "a number" on him. By the time he finally realized it, Jodi must of felt profoundly rejected. in her sick mind, I think she somehow thought she would put him out of her misery.

He also has "uncle Mike" who is often in the court room. He, like Alyce describes, had a father and father figures in his life. The body of family therapy literature demonstrates that in families like Travis, where the parental generation is dysfunctional, sibling subsystem are very close, even enmeshed. Without more information, I can only guess that Travis had a position of authority beyond his years. I am not surprised by the depth of pain the siblings are showing. Imagine getting through that childhood to the other side to have your hero killed.

Travis's mother died in 2005. It appears he wasnt connected to her. Despite the years of hunger, homelessness, parental substance abuse, domestic violence Travis was able to hold down a job and be successful in his career. He had many friends and acquaintances. He was able to live on his own. We cant say any of this about Jodi, can we.

I imagine his ability to detect harm and/or deceit in a loved one was damaged, especially with regard to women. When reading his last texts to Jodi, he tells her how she hurt him and how those hurts were worse than other hurts in his life. To me he is baring his soul there, cause his public behavior is cocky, arrogant and boastful. Travis covered his hurts well.

    Be careful out there.

Jodi quickly adapted to a jailed mindset. As some of you know I worked in forensic psychiatry for about 5 years...prisoners are bored and spend inordinate amounts of time figuring out how to break rules and get over. her sneaky behaviors in the courtroom are testament to what a good criminal she is.

Alyce is an elderly jock in bloomers! Poor thing is looking like she is taking xanax.

OMG, this is the funniest today.

Martinez has impeached Alyce. Impeachment only means that she lied (like Bill Clinton did), its not something that she will be punished for...its Martinez's job to impeach her. Of course, she will NOT forfeit pay or pay a fine, this isn't law and order! 'Sides, the worst punishment is that Alyce became JM's witness. And by becoming his witness, Jodi will pay the price. Which I personally really like. There is hell on earth.

Folksy, easy to understand, experienced, well known in her field, published author. She had some decent evidence to work with, that would at least show emotional abuse and a volatile relationship.

Why did she take the case?
    • Believed in Jodi's cause as an abused woman who was justified in striking back Lets try she took the case looking for evidence of Jodi being an abused woman. While digging to prove her bias, she relied on Jodi's view. Case in point: that fu*ked up ring finger.
    • Felt Travis was an abuser and wanted to set the record straight The key word her is she "felt". Feelings have no place in expert testimony.
    • Self promotion (could she have predicted the media interest? doubtful) Well, it will go on her cv and pump up her expert witness cases. Not in the way she imagined though.
    • Money In terms of hourly pay for investigation and testimony...it really isnt a high profile wage.
    • Promote her view of domestic violence
    • Conned by Jodi into doing something outside her boundariesConned by Jodi to do something INSIDE her boundaries and belief system

Why was she so rigid in her views of Jodi as victim and Travis as abuser?
    • Believed Jodi was truly emotionally and physically abused Yes, and looked for evidence to support her belief. Instead of looking at the evidence with an open mind.
    • Defense team kept her in the dark about contradictory evidence I am sure they withheld information.
    • Jodi tricked her completely She should have been skeptical.
    • Paid for her views, so afraid to show any flexibility Alyce left her small pond where she was a big fish. She certainly appeared unable to back off her positions even when given new information
    • Unable to admit she was wrong in public this!
    • Not actually an expert on domestic violence or testifyingShe gives lectures and CEU's on being an expert witness. Dont quote me but I think the title is Swimming with the sharks

Who takes the blame for this Titanic hitting the iceberg?
    • Alyce? She was sloppy and unscientific, lied and covered up for Jodi
    • Nurmi? He is a snake and did not prepare this witness
    • Wilmott? Her direct exam and prep missed the mark
    • Jodi? She lied and changed the facts on the people hired to
    • Samuels? His faulty psych testing & eval contributed to the clusterfuck

    What do you think?
Jodi murdered Travis in a premeditated rage. She confessed to it. She doesnt want to pay the piper, cause that is who she is. When she is convicted, I bet she faints of something.

    no, no one knows.
    Mistrial motion is a joke.
We could only guess why Samantha and Tanisha were crying. Not every tear needs a direct cause or is related to motions. Their brother was slaughtered, and they could cry when fond memories are triggered or any other numerous triggers in grief.

yea i don't think believe this chick - for one she lives in hawaii, and i know bobby was living by yreka and trying to sell a book about jodi being a stalker gf- i think she saw that lostwikipedia about him being an extra on lost, and just made a crazy video (he wasn't on lost for many shows about 4 playing one of the "others", not nearly enuff that he would be staying in hawaii for 3 years

i think she used that title and story to get more hits - so she could tell the world about her anti death penalty stance - every one asked her to post a pic of her and bobby to prove it cuz no one believed her and she only posted the link to the lostwikipedia page

also bobby is not dead, jodi said he tried to kill himself once, but didn't - then some one found an obit for a bobby j in san diego, but it is a different bobby

eta: and if you look at her other videos, she is trying to say jodi shouldn't be sent to prison, but instead she should be given shamanistic drugs (homeopathic) because they can heal psycopathy- yea this chick is a loon!

I never thought he was dead and don't know where anyone watching the trial would get that from. JA never said he was dead.

some ppl thought jodi said bobby killed himself in her testimony and started posting that all over, then some one found an abit for a bobby juarez killed in 2009 and every one assumed it was the same guy and posted it all over - even thought that bobby was from san diego, and even tho SD is in cali, it is 8 hours away from yreka - so its all internet rumors saying he is dead though i bet he kinda wishes he was with all the press he is going to get now that he has been found

again, Harlette to the rescue of info, thanks!
Wonder if it is Bobby who gave the pics to HLN recently. Maybe he decided to grab 15 mins while he can. Sounds to me like the guy had one hell of a beginning in life himself :( Makes me hope for him that somehow he over came it all. Sounded to me from JM's knowledge tBobby at least tried to be cooperative with someone. Don't know if that would be from a def report or Flores team tracking him down though.

Don't pay any attention to this post. Jennifer Willmott was NOT arrested for pot. It's the wrong Jennifer and it's spreading fast.

Did Jenny really get arrested for pot? Anybody know?

Jodi's defense attorney, Jennifer Lynne Sussman Willmott was arrested for marijuana possession in 2008. The charges were later dropped by the prosecution, after Jennifer agreed to plead guilty & participate in a Deferred Prosecution Program, the penalties which remain confidential.

Jodi finally admitted to murder but not premeditated murder. The defense did not prepare or instruct AL properly. Very sloppy work on their part. now, there are rumors that the Alexander family wants to sue AL for slander. What a circus.

Maybe the men just are not speaking up. Jodi is the exception to the norm, with what ALV was given and the soft spoken persona of Jodi, and her apparent distain for men, I think she was a believer, but after hitting the stand, she has had a wake up call. Big time, life changing wake up call.
I have noticed the same thing. I wondered if violence and darkness is more common than we imagine, or if people attracted to this case or this board are just more likely to have had those elements in their lives? I tend to think the second is more likely, since most of the people I know in real life have not had any DV or other violence in their lives.

As far as all the perps being male, in my case, the perp was female. The attempted murder I witnessed as a child was by a woman, and the violence and abuse I suffered growing up was at the hands of a woman. (I was also molested once as a child by a male family friend, but that was a one time thing). So it would appear I am bucking the general trend. Same as Travis, whose examples of abuse as a child were also by a female.

It is not impossible, but I think it is highly unlikely. They will be finishing up with the whole "Martinez signing autographs" request for a mistrial, and unless Wong has something earth shattering to say, I think it is pretty much just a formality, and the motion for a mistrial will be denied.
