This is SO well said. It's a perfect description of the defense strategy. I hope, hope, hope the jury sees it this way.

ALV - A Domestic Violence Expert?

I believe that the only way you are a domestic violence expert is by experience. Actually being in that situation. That's the only way you know how someone feels because you have been there too.
I am a survivor of DV. Lasted 9 years until his death from his motorcycle accident.
You can't just go to school and study and be an expert, you have to have experienced it.

In theory, yes. BUT in the real world there is the limitation of budget and time and deadlines. There is more information in this case than any one person can digest. Imagine verifying and crosschecking the many thousands of messages, diary entries, phone calls, from all the many people involved. Alyce did not know when this case would go to trail - it has been delayed for years. Alyce used a portion of the case info to make a judgement on domestic abuse, I think in good faith taking most of what Jodi said as fact.

The prosecution can dedicate more resource to disproving these details because that is how they prove their case. It is their goal. The defense at some point has to commit to a story and build on it, for better or worse. Unfortunately for the lawyers and experts, their client is an exceptional, creative, and relentless liar. Someone who lies for sport, someone who doesn't even know why she lies. The defense does not even know its own case, because the shifting stories.

Long time creeper, finally was able to get on board. Being an Arizonan, and having family live just a few streets away this trial is more than just something to follow. Its totally crazy!

Welcome The thing that worries me is that with all of her years of experience she's unable to see that someone is feigning abuse.

I think Juan is continuing to do a great job. And I don't him envy having to sift through the endless details and unfounded assumptions of LaViolette's testimony. I would guess that, even though there's so much good evidence in this case, he can't really leave unaddressed much that LaViolette said in direct because he has to always have in mind that possible stubborn, not-too-intelligent juror who could hang this thing.

And on more than one occasion I've noticed its healthy not to give a damn about a current trial, and this is one of them ... :)

I had the same thoughts today! Nurmi looks totally disconnected and uninterested in what is going on~
the only action from him is when they approach the bench.
Other than that there seems to be no interaction between him and JA or him and JW.
He appears to be resigned to the fact that they are sinking.
JM: "Do you believe everything in the journal's Sept 13th entry?"
ALV: "I believe in the ESSENCE of it."

He spends too much time watching the jurors, that makes me nervous. He is trying to find another reason to dismiss more jurors.

And it doesn't appear anyone in there recognizes them, or at least acts like they do! I would so lose my appetite if I saw that trio in a restaurant. I am really kind of surprised since Willmot needs security escorts out of the court house. It could be the one at 7th St. and Glendale.

It never ceases to amaze me what you peeps on mds find!

ETA: I guess the person that took the photo recognized them, duh.

Hehe...gotta say with how much ALV used the word context today....didn't want to see that word again but it fits in this "context"

I've said it before, my disdain for her dental health, it looks like a couple mint tic tacs fighting in there.

Good point! It can be easy to start to wonder if JM is going into too many areas. But he is really just trying to cover all his bases. And he's been doing a wonderful job at making defense witnesses his own!

I've noticed too that all Nurmi is doing lately is either jury watch or just look completely checked out of the whole thing. He's letting Willmott run this "circus" into the ground on her own as much as he can.

I'm not sure if Lava's assessment was a total lie or not (seems that way), but she's gotten totally played by both the prosecution and the defense. They've both used her to promote their respective side and the prosecution has gotten more out of her than the 18 days of JA's testimony. The irony of all this is mind-boggling. JA could not successfully juggle all her lies and it's like a sunrise to see have it shown so clearly

    Thank you!
Your have to go through it to understand and recognize abuse.
It drove me nuts when ALV would look so confused maybe we should start questioning her credentials!

It's scary that she thinks a pathological liar is credible!

I'm with you! she's quite shameful and very, very insulting to the true victims and also TA"s family :( by the way, I'm sorry you were a victim too but it now makes you a "real" expert on abuse as opposed to the gaping hole on the witness stand flapping her gums with lies, excuse me..... untruths!

It's funny, my sister watched the trial today and commented that she thinks that Jodi has found her new stalking victim: JW. She doesn't read this website, so it's not just us noticing Jodi's behavior towards JW.
