Of course the totally cluess HLN anchor (woman, don't know her name), and the rbrn more clueless guest "legal analyst," are apparently unware of LV approaching Samantha last week, and is surmising that the defense is requesting a mistrial due to someone inappropriately approaching the witness! Arrgh.

It was during an afternoon break, if I remember correctly, that AVL approached Samantha, Travis' sister (sitting in the gallery), and began speaking with her. I don't think it has been determined what she said to her, but talking to her at all is a big "no, no!"

What kind of "expert" approaches the family of a victim of a murderer that the "expert" is attempting to exonerate?

I'll tell a story here: A girlfriend's father was dying in hospice here and we visited regularly. He passed when I alone was in the room with him and the family was out eating/running errands. I informed the nurse & she left the room. For whatever reason I did not feel it would be "right" for me to leave him alone in that room, so I stayed. After about 30-45 minutes his body let out an audibly loud sound as it released air/relaxed or something of the sort. Scared the everloving shat out of me, but was later informed that's normal.

I think Jodi killed Travis with the knife. She thought he was dead on the floor or in the shower as she was beginning to clean up & stage the crime scene. At some point Travis was either still alive or his body let out that expired sound I heard in hospice. Jodi was frightened & grabbed the gun & shot him in the head. She did not realize how freaking loud a gun is in an enclosed space, got scared others may have heard it, and bolted from the scene leaving it a mess and leaving incriminating evidence behind.

One this about the shell casing. Those things are ejected with velocity and can bounce all over the place in a room hitting ceiling, walls, etc. But note that the blood it was on top of had to have coagulated for some period of time -- otherwise it would have sunk down into it. Which supports the idea of the delayed shot, along with no bleedout from the wound.

I have thought for a long time that Jodi shot Travis at the end in desperation because he was "making noises", but I was thinking more like gurgling or death rattle noises. I thought they freaked her out enough that she shot him to make the noises stop. But your theory above is interesting, and seems plausible. Absent one of those scenarios, the shooting just seems foolishly gratuitous.

A question I have wondered about too. Juror number five reportedly claimed to have been vigilant - to the point of turning off the news if anything came up. This statement alarmed me, as the news headlines alone are full of the Arias trial slants. I fear Nurmi has a point regarding avoidance to exposure being very difficult outside sequestration. Ultimately, the honour of each juror decides if this rule is followed. Should we not just factor this into reality? Treat jurors as adults capable of being fair regardless of outside influences? How fair is this? How realistic sequestration in cases that last months?

Sequestration is problematic in this day and age for many reasons. It costs a fortune in a long trial, and in a depressed economy, that money is better spent elsewhere. Plus sequestration is very hard on jurors, especially in a long trial. Make the burden too onerous, and you will eventually end up with only asshat losers left in the jury pool. More important, unlike in the old days, sequestering the jury does not mean they are cut off from all media unless you also take away their smart phones. And in this modern, always connected age, fewer and fewer people would tolerate that. Plus, we are trusting these jurors to make life or death decisions about justice, but we won't trust them to not be blatant, rule breaking liars? That seems insulting. I think if we are going to have a jury system, we need to trust them to be honest people.

Other things to consider re: Juror #5:

She may have been awful to deal with and disliked by most members of the jury panel.

She may have been sooo mad at whoever ratted her out that she returned to court just to stare down the snitches.

Word is she will no longer attend proceedings.

I wondered this as well. While I understand being very disappointed at being released from the jury, especially if it was over some innocuous comment, I think Juror #5 showing up in the courtroom again says a LOT about her personality. Too much about her, not enough thought for the trial itself. Maybe other jurors saw signs that she could be a real problem to interact with, and that was why they ratted her out for something small.

On Thurs. during afternoon break, Alyce got off the stand and went directly over to Samantha, who was by herself. She leaned over and said something. Later on, Sam told KCL that Juan was taking care of it.

when alyce asked for a break on thursday, instead of running straight to the bathroom, she went straight to samatha who was sitting alone and started talking to her, and per the victim laws in arizona it is illegal for any member of the DT or their experts are allowed to talk to the victims

HLN showed some footage from a previous trial where some woman tied her hubby up to the bed and stabbed him. The attorneys did a recreation of it in court with an actual bed. Male attorney laid on his back tied to headboard. The female attorney actually got up on top of him straddling him recreating the stabbing. The vision of JW straddling Nurmi in the courtroom is more than I could bare ... would be hysterical tho.
