I have never seen anything quite like it, either. I have been observing trials since I was young, and the atmosphere in the courtroom is usually respectful and controlled. Most judges won't tolerate any less. What really surprises me is how often the MIT spec is allowed to go and sit with Jodi, every time there is a sidebar. She sits, and they whisper and laugh and giggle together like they are besties in Jr. High! Usually, for security purposes, no one but the attorneys are allowed to get near the defendant. This judge just seems to have let all common sense and control fly out the window, and I don't get why.

In reality, JM isn't trying to ruin ALV as a person, but he pretty well must destroy credibility of the absurd deductions she drew line by line as abusive and by what Jodi told her. By now, the jury has had a audio and visual of Jodi from her being on the stand and how her blankness came across. I hope they put two and two together and see how ridiculous JVL's interperatations were. JM is passionate to defend Travis and put Jodi away and does what he needs to do. Careers of 2 individuals are in jeopardy now, but they were the ones who did stupid testimonies.
Yes! I could not agree with you more. I go to court pretty much every day for my job. I also work for 2 judges. We were talking about this very issue on Friday at lunch. I was describing the behavior of the gallery, attorneys, witnesses etc. and I even played the ALV "Are you angry at me Mr. Martinez" bit. They were appalled.
Our courtrooms here do not allow ANY FOOD or drink (besides water bottles) in the court. There is no gum chewing, no using your cell phones, no reading newspapers. That kind of thing. In my opinion, this judge has no respect from anyone in her courtroom and she doesn't demand it. If an outburst of laughing happened here, anyone who was caught laughing would have been thrown out. The Mitigation Specialist would have been sanctioned and probably her supervisors as well.
When ALV was becoming combative, the judge should have looked at her and said, "I'm going to ask you one more time to answer the questions Yes or No or you will be held in contempt."
This stopping court for people being "sick" is a joke too. They needed a hard nosed Judge to handle this case. Maybe after JM speaks to the Judge about the ALV/Sam thing, she will realize things are out of control and she better get her courtroom on track fast. Before a mistrial is called and the taxpayers have to pay more money for this MURDERER and all the while Jodi is smirking and loving the possibility of being in the spotlight for another few years...
And this whole thing about Juror #5 getting calls from the Judge? I find that hard to believe. I am doing more research but I know there is a rule about ex parte communications. I'm not sure about AZ law but it just sounds strange. It just doesn't make sense.
I hope Judge Stephens pulls her head out and demands some respect in that courtroom.

Have I told you lately that I love you? The defense shot themselves in the foot by opening the door on the stalking issue. All evidence/testimony, such as it is, about stalking has been brought in by the defense and JM has been masterful in refusing to get dragged into an appeal issue.
JM also tied the felony murder charge to the theft of the Grandparent's .25 auto
Haven't seen any real evidence about the ring or rent money.
But yet one of his producers has met with Stabby at least twice in jail, so who's to say he didn't reach some kind of an accommodation with her family that way? Producers, etc play semantics with word games.

This is nothing but my assumption as to how things went. Jodi brought the knife herself (some have said Darryl had a knife collection that was kept in Jodi's storage shed), thinking she could stab him in the shower and that would be that. A knife to the heart, while Travis is seated and contained in a small box of a shower, seems like it should kill him quickly and easily. But, it didn't work out that way, and Travis fought back and exited the shower. Now, the crime scene is bigger than Jodi had planned, and Travis is still moving; he might get away, outside to neighbors or to his cell phone to call police.
We don't know where the gun is at this point, but we can guess perhaps it's in her backpack. Maybe he was getting away too fast for her to go rummaging through to find the gun. And, if she has little or no experience with guns, perhaps she doesn't know how loud a shot will be. Will it alert the neighbors? Will someone call the police on her? Was it better to keep stabbing him than to risk someone hearing a shot and reporting it? Could be. So, she keeps stabbing him; she gets him down and even goes so far as to stab him in the head TWICE!, trying to end him. It's not working, he's still alive. So, she slits his throat, believing that she's delivered the fatal blow, and drags him back to the shower.
At that point, either he's making gurgling sounds and she just can't believe he still isn't dead, and grabs the gun. Or, she figures, better safe than sorry and hurry up and shoot him. One of his roommate's was due to be home not long after. If the roommate had gotten there and Travis was not completely dead, he could've discovered the scene and called the cops, and Jodi would possibly have been caught sooner.
All just speculation of course, but I truly believe that she didn't plan on using the gun unless she had to. She didn't want anyone to hear the shot/shots that it would take to kill him; and she simply underestimated his will to live. She thought she'd stab him through the heart (how symbolic) and he would die right there in the shower.

To my knowledge we've never seen a complete transcript of the IM's/texts Alyce was using. We've only seen TA's. Stabby's remain unseen for some reason. I went back and read some of the court minutes and for some reason Stabby was very concerned about what the prosecution might find on her damaged hard drive (laptop?), to the point that she and her defense even asked for an ex parte meeting with the Judge.
I can't believe the lax court room decorum. Stabby attempted to have a friend of TA's thrown out of the court room while she was on the stand because she claimed the woman was making faces at her but yet on her side of the court room her Mom and Aunt sit yukking it up, Donavon has been seen eating and Alyce all but showed with cheerleaders. The mitigation specialist has been caught passing a note from Stabby to her Mom and Richard Samuels was taking marked exhibits/evidence home after stuffing them in his bag as well as writing on/adjusting his notes/conclusions (also marked as evidence) while on the damn witness stand.

Back on topic, I do not get the flippant atmosphere in the courtroom. I am all for a good sick joke, and Hodi has certainly provided us all with plenty to laugh at. But I always considered that there should be a certain amount of decorum in a court of law. The eating, drinking and laughter is really out of place here. I could see maybe an occasional bottle of water but sunflower seeds? I would think that the sessons aren't lasting over 2 & 1/2 hours at the most. Other than medical reasons I don't think anyone will starve or dehydrate so badly that they will die. I have to admire the Alexander family that they have exhibited so much grace and class. I don't know if I could keep myself from going up behind one of the idiots and smacking them upside their head and saying "Show some damn respect, asshole!"

I wonder what image the jury was left with too...I had heard about ALV's Snow White theory before last week but was scratching my head and wondering 'what the HELL...Snow White? Shack? Dwarves? WHAT is he going on about?' during the barrage of Snow White questions. I can only imagine how confused many of the jurors must have been, assuming most had no prior knowledge of this. Is it a good thing for the prosecution to have confused jury members?
It will be good entertainment for the viewers to watch Juan 'go after' Alyce, and it may well be gratifying to him to 'get her'. Just ask yourselves while enjoying the show and rooting for your guy, is what you're seeing going to help the jury reach a guilty verdict for murder 1?

IMHO, he's good at making these witnesses seem incompetent. His job is to discredit the witnesses so that their testimony holds no weight. I think he's doing a good job.
