It sounds like this juror added days to the trial all by herself with all the questions she asked. I think that was a big motivation for getting her kicked out.

    Maybe.

I know if I were on that stand in a professional capacity, there is no fucking way I am going to let Martinez or any other attorney stand there and SCREAM at me during questioning. I'd have shot back a lot worse than what LaViolette did insinuating possibly a little short man syndrome causing that misdirected anger of his...or I'd end up being cited for contempt because I'd refuse to answer him until he ratcheted down the volume of that shit.

These are expert witnesses, well-credentialed and well-educated and well-paid.

I have no problem with him attacking the SOURCE of their conclusions, the liar known as Jodi Arias, but I have a big problem with him prattling on and on about that ridiculous Snow White fuckery when AL told him numerous times that was *not* the topic but rather a catchy title. It's like he gets himself so locked into some irrelevant trivial bullshit and will. not. back. down.

Like I said, that little man come out of gate screaming at me in that hostile tone, I'd either give as good as he gave or sit there mute and risk a cite for contempt of court but I wouldn't acknowledge him until he backed that shit off.

I'm hoping for the best in his rebuttal case and closing but right now I think he looks like an absolute ass up there, screaming at the witness about Snow White when she NUMEROUS times told him it was a catchy title, NOT the topic of the actual seminar or whatever fuckery it was.

I fail to see what he's hoping to gain by screaming at these witnesses in such a hostile manner (well, unless when it was JA on the stand, but he got the best shit out of JA when he talked in a normal, regulated tone of voice). Christ, Martinez, take a Xanax if you need to but chill the fuck out on some of these people.

For the record, I personally think AL is somewhat predispositioned to blame men in cases of abuse but I don't think trying to berate/humiliate/degrade her in front of that jury is going to accomplish much.

Much better strategy to attack the source of THIS case than to attack the witness.

BTW, I also can't help but wonder if Jodi didn't spend the 6 weeks before her arrest burning the midnight oil at the Grandparents' place carefully rewriting that 2008 journal to include a few little "extra" entries...and maybe even more than the 2008 one. I don't think she's doing in it jail...I think she did it laying the groundwork for her alibi, kind of like she was tailoring her stories to Flores to match the forensics. I think that's why she wanted them find those journals...she knew what she'd written in them.

I think that's why JM came out like a raging bull. He was pissed and he wasn't going to take the bullshit anymore. I'm glad he rattled Lava Lamp's cage so she has a few days to stew over it and stock up on depends.

I felt the same way! I do feel that the prosecution scored big points by getting ALV to utter the words "Yes, I believe that Jodi was a victim." That is going to sit on the minds of the jurors all weekend long. Monday's testimony should be interesting! XO

Well, in my opinion, the courtroom where someone is on trial for 1st degree murder is hardly the place to be "clowning"

I have been in a funk since AL took the stand becuz her testimony really grated a nerve with me. If she were an advocate for DV victims she really took a shit on the whole cause. I know what it's like to get punched, kicked, hit, "debased" on a daily basis & not be able to get out. I guess that has been what has fueled my animosity towards JA. I don't find her a kindred abused spirit in the least. I just find her to be an opportunist that has used other ppls suffering to cover her own ass.

I finally got caught up on testimony...and wow. I get the impression that 'expert' probably didnt win over the jury. 'Nuff said.

So after this 'expert' is shown the door, what else is on the menu for the 'defense'? Hoping this is it?

Maybe this will be addressed later in the posts, but just finished JM's opening statement. It meant so much more now that we've followed the trial and could picture things now.

    Getting caught up now.
As for Juan yelling, it sounds louder to us because he's been right in front of the microphone so we can hear it. It has been clearly documented and confirmed orally that it's not like that in the courtroom at all.

JW is giving her opening statement, couldn't watch it without thinking negatively, so off it's going. Right now she's his dirty secret and was sucked into everything, etc.
Good luck if anyone here is planning to sit through it.

I'm curious as to why the prosecution isn't allowed to expound on Jodi as a stalker but JW in her opening statements brought this up saying that Travis called her a stalker to his friends.
I've heard its because this would be prejudicial and could come up on appeal. It just seems hypocritical to me.
Fortunately there's plenty of other evidence to bring Travis justice though.

ETA: I had forgotten that JM objected toward the end of JW's opening statement, when she is saying the crime was NOT a result of planning and premeditation

We've got a loooooooooooong weekend of no trial ahead of us. Can we got some hot & spicy Juan Martinez fan fiction from the official supporters club? Some of you naughties might get called into chambers for further questioning.

I won't discriminate if there are some Wilmott or Nurmi fans either, go for it.... 50 Shades of Guilty...

OMG, I was driving home from work today and was just wondering if there is any fanfic based on this case yet. In my little circle of ficcers, no one has written any (none that they will admit to), but I was trying to come up with pairings just to amuse myself.

I bet somewhere, there's some naughty Juan/Jodi fic.

Just write up your own Martinez fantasies and post them on the forum. I'm curious what all these ladies see in him... maybe they like being yelled at and forced to answer complicated questions?

Here are some scenarios to get you started. You are:
    1. An unruly expert witness and forget your testimony on the stand
    2. Court reporter held late after trial to review transcription
    3. Paralegal assigned to help Juan with the case
    4. Judge losing patience with his rough questioning
    5. Fan on the courthouse steps competing with Katie Wick for his attention

No. Do not do this. Make this a pm thing. I swear I will ban anyone posting fantasy in here.

Juan isn't screaming. Just FYI. It sounds louder to us because of microphones. If you pay attention, when he steps away from the microphone, it's really hard to hear him.

As for whether or not you should behave as you've said; damn right, you're a professional. So you should act like a fucking professional. Suck it up and answer the tough questions. ALV's job isn't to sass the opposing party; it's to make sure she gives her best information to the jury in order to save Jodi's life. The trial isn't about her and her compulsive dislike of anything that has a cock and balls.

In fact, her behavior could be a problem if the jury seems to like Juan Martinez. If she's too rude and difficult towards the prosecutor, she may well lose any credibility she has. For some reason, Jodi's defense team is acting like this is a game.

It is not. A man is dead. Jodi is the one who killed him, and she may still have a large price to pay. There is nothing in this that says that being a smartass is appropriate.

Juan Martinez Pre Cross Exam Training Sessions with Victoria Stilwell (exerpt):

...Juan's obedience training began late in the afternoon, with a few easy commands while on a short leash. Stilwell placed cardboard cutouts of LaViolette all over the yard, then tasered Martinez while screaming "Not Guilty!" whenever he lunged at an image. "This creates a negative reinforcement of the behavior and will make Juan less likely to attack when it comes time for cross examination." explains Stilwell.

"Whenever he goes into a barking fit, which especially happens in front of a LaViolette image (when he's not busy peeing on it), Stilwell tackles him to the ground and whispers in his ear "jury sympathizers!" "This seems to calm him down somewhat," reveals Stilwell. "And of course the belly rubs and treats afterward really seem to help, too."

    from http://eggtreenews.wordpress.com/201...bark-good-boy/

Well, I'd say he needs a few more sessions...

To clarify, if you create another thread within this subsection, I don't care what you do. But not in this thread. This thread should strictly stick to the case discussion.

Yes! Juan does ask this because in most of these trials, all of the perps have a "memory" problem. It's a technique they (the perps) use so that they do not have to admit to their crime. Juan sees this over and over again. I'm sure that 90% or more of the people he's prosecuted have had "memory" problems. SOP.

I didn't even know that more threads were an option. Not that I particularly feel like making one, but its good to know that its available.

I agree. Using the "I don't recall" tactic to avoid answering questions has been over-used in this trial, by the defendant and the witnesses brought in to back up the defendant's story.

I'm curious if I watched a different trial to some other people here. What Martinez was doing hardly constitutes to screaming or even yelling in my book. He wasn't going psycho or crazy or acting like a raving lunatic. If that's what you really think I'd hate for you to ever meet a real crazy

    Thank you!! Excellent article!

Also, has the 16 page text message that Alyce was reading from been released?
