First of all, premeditation can happen in a minute. It doesn't not have to be days of planning.
Second of all, yes, I think she planned to either make him commit to her, or she was going to make him pay. Why? She brought a gun, she brought gas cans, she kept her trip there a secret, just to name a few.

She testified today that she stole Travis Alexander's gun from his home, fufilling the lesser included charge of burglary. This makes it a felony murder, and felony murder trumps any justification defense.

Some of her behavior screams borderline...but wouldnt we see more real attempts or threats of suicide besides those few we have heard in court? And I'm surprised that she hasn't had drug or alcohol issues too.
Do you have any thoughts on the victim? I see some narcissistic traits with him and I would think a relationship between a narcissist and a borderline would be a recipe for disaster?

Borderline Personality Disorder and Anti-Social Personality Disorder. In all honesty...I see some narcissistic traits in Travis and just a typical red-blooded male. She played off of him to her own benefit...
still think it was premeditated. why else would she save the phone call/emails/texts. if you were done with someone, in every way, why would you save all that shit? i'm not sure that she was upset about the cancun trip. i think she went there trying to settle the debt for the car with travis, and he wouldn't have it. i don't buy any of her abuse claims.
either way, she did seal her fate today admitting she took the gun from travis' house... felony murder... consider the goose cooked.
A pundit on HLN made a great point today. He noted, memorialized by crime scene photos, that the always immaculately organized walk-in closet was found to be in pristene condition post crime, without a shoe or sock out of place. This after a frantic Jodi, fleeing for her life from an enraged Travis, scrambled to the top shelf of the closet to retrieve the gun she *instantly* recalled was tucked up on the top shelf. Never mind that she told Flores she knew for sure that Travis did not own a gun. He also noted that Jodi claims to have never shot a gun. Was the safety on? Did she know how to disengage it? Was a bullet in it? According to police report, no gun, NO ammunition, were found in the home.
Matt had to have at least helped her remember to fire a gun just before she went to kill him. I still say there is something more to this sanctimonious nobody since there was an attempted investigation on him.
I think she initially planned to try to control him with the threat of blackmail. That's the reason she taped the phone sex. When he called her out on being psycho crazy, he hurt her to the core and he was discarding her. She can't take being alone and she hasn't got a newer model boyfriend yet. That's when she began to fantasize about killing him. Her fantasy took over her thinking. This trip was his last chance to be her real boyfriend and prove it to her by taking her to cancun as a girlfriend. I really think she used the duct tape to tape the knife and gun under the sink where it would be handy and not seen. Her fantasy guides her actions
Also, the fact that she took her battery out of her phone in Pasadena so that she wouldn't ping in AZ.
