You have to keep the goal in mind here. The story doesn't have to be 100% correct or perfect. She is not innocent. She just has to do enough to save her from death row. I think they have opened up enough doubt and misdirection to save her life.
I'm so confused. She got the gun and went back into the bathroom? Or she shot him in the bedroom? Also, when did he almost kill her before? I'm so lost...
