You keep forgetting how big this house was and that more than likely there is more than one A/C Unit. While his bedroom was at the top of the stairs, his bathroom was on the other side of it. There was carpet in his bedroom and this wasn't a builder cookie cutter home. It had upgrades. I am sure there was a good carpet in there. (meaning plush). The smell would have had to have been really bad but if she turned up the A/C to keep it really cold and they said they just started smelling it, then I am betting it's because of all of these conditions. This house was almost 5k Sq feet. And if they weren't home much or in their rooms they might not have smelled anything. Even whomever went into Travis' room didn't mention the smell overwhelming them when they walked in. They still had to look for him.

This is very true. I live in a condo and my brother left for the weekend once without flushing his toilet, or, as he claims not following through with the necessary 2nd flush. (so gross) The bathroom is right off my living room and with the bathroom door shut I didn't smell anything. It was only when i went in there to throw something in the trash that I smelled it (and gagged). Probably still not the same level of foul smelling but in a much bigger house I can see how it would have gone unnoticed for a while.
