When there is a gay in the group, gay banter is easier and accepted as playful. I have a ton of straight friends and I will be the only homo and they make comments all the time. It's very playful. Some of them will also make comments on my FB. I know they are joking and being silly.

My question is the banter between these two is ALL sexual innuendos. The communication I have with my straight friends is not all gay stuff. The gay banter is few and far between.

It can totally be innocent banter. I just find it a little weird it is the only subject they comment on.

I've seen 40 year old virgin, but can't remember that scene.

I can see how having a gay person in the group would make the banter more likely but they all live in different cities at this point and it's done even without the gay one involved/directed at him. He actually told me a funny story the other day about one of their friends who lives in California and came home to MD for a wedding. He didn't tell anybody he was in town and snuck to one of the other guy's houses in the middle of the night and decorated his car with decals of pink dolphins. California guy left without telling anybody he did it and the guy whose car he decorated was trying to figure it out for days before he got a text with a picture of his friend standing next to his decorated car.

I think it just depends on the group of friends. With my brother and his friends there's not much that's off limits - they make fun of each other for being Jewish or Italian or having a "pedofile mustache". It's just how they are and nobody's feelings get hurt because they all give it as good as they get it.

The 40 year old Virgin scene is a classic. They're at Steve Carell's apartment playing video games and arguing.

Lets forget about a propensity to defend Travis for a minute.

Who thinks this kind of 'joking' is normal? When did this horrific crime against innocent children become funny?
How many friends and family do we all have that EVER used child molestation for jokes? Would you want them at your child's events? Family picnics? Let them take your kid to the park?
If these same statements were found in a case of a child molester, like people wouldn't be saying OMG OMG?

Not much shocks me but I can't believe people are defending this.

Catching up here... My siblings and their friends joke this way. They joke about all kinds of inappropriate things, like being gay, rape, different kinds of porn, the pope and kids, etc. (not saying being gay is inappropriate, saying their jokes about it are.) I feel that this kind of joking is rather common, even if it is unsavory to some of us older folk. I don't think so much that it is funny, but that these are big world issues coming into the views of younger minds. They joke to make it less threatening. And then it grows from there. I don't like it, I'm just saying that I see it happen.

Okay, as someone who is Mormon and who was in singles wards for TEN years ? let me clarify one misconception.

There is NO WAY they really thought that anal or oral were ?grey area? or were okay. The church is EXTREMELY clear on the law of chastity, ESPECIALLY in singles wards. Seriously, you hear a heavy sign and groan when they start a lesson, fireside or talk with ?today we?re going to talk about the law of chastity? ? because being a ?single? in the LDS scene, you hear about it A LOT. And they are very clear, OFTEN, about what is crossing the line ? and it is a whole lot less than anal and oral.

For example ? they say anything where the body starts to take over and the mind takes a back seat ? not good. No heavy necking, petting, touching of private parts (above clothes or under), no having your bodies so close that your privates are touching (which they also explain grinding too), ALL clothing to remain on the body and hands kept out of it. So they are really, really, REALLY clear.

Seriously, I don?t know how someone could be in a singles ward for more than a month and not get a pretty clear picture ? and Travis was in one for years and years. And, considering Jodi?s history, the missionaries would have had to be very clear on it too.

So, there is no way they thought it was ?okayish.? You leap over one line and then the next until you get all the way down ? and that?s what I think happened here. Also, she may have been the one to push those methods (and maybe him too) to avoid the possibility of pregnancy. People that are having sex against a moral belief greatly fear having their sin brought out ? and pregnancy is a pretty clear way to proclaim it to the world.
