I just played this on Youtube and started busting up! And then pictured all of Travis' side standing up and clapping along. THAT would be awesome!

The only thing that should matter is if he was beating her blue just before she killed him. All signs point to no.
LOL @ holy g-string! I totally agree with this!!!

Without knowing the guy, it's hard to make a judgment call, but he did grow up in a crappy situation, where his parents couldn't care less about him. He probably was at least flattered by Jodi's attention, at the beginning.

I mean, here you are in a family where your parents probably really couldn't care less if you live or die; where they don't value you at all. Sure, he found Mormonism and tried to lead what he thought was an appropriate life, but then Jodi comes along and acts as though the sun rises and sets on Travis. Like he's the most important thing in her life. For once, he was the most important thing in someone's life?

Jodi's attention probably made Travis feel like he had some value. Even if it was bad attention; here was this girl who was so obsessed with him, that he was so important to. For a normal person, that would be setting off all kinds of warning bells. But, I think maybe with his upbringing, it was just not ringing those bells for him. It was a new experience.

Here was someone who apparently wanted to spend all this time with him, spend hours on the phone (allegedly), who wanted to know everything about him. She probably had some kind of hero-worship thing she was directing towards him. And, his ego ate it up. Now I don't mean that in a bad way. Growing up the way that he did, he probably didn't have much ego or self-esteem. But, I think we can all identify to a point. Having a person -- even though we're not interested in them -- displaying all this admiration and attention towards us. I don't think he knew what to do with it. I'm sure sometimes it felt odd, but it was making him feel good that here was this girl who was throwing herself at him, and driving hundreds of miles to see him.

She picked up her entire life and moved to Arizona after he dumped her. Travis was the center of her universe. I'm sure at some level, it was very flattering, with all of the negative attention growing up. And it's entirely possible that Jodi told Travis her little sob stories. How she was a victim of abuse by her boyfriends and parents; you know, trying to make him think they went through similar things. He probably did feel sorry for her. She may have threatened suicide as well; when he broke up with her, or at other times. Since he was trying to fix himself through religion, maybe he thought he could help fix her as well?

It is hard to imagine that a 30-year-old guy can be so naive, but it's possible, given his own upbringing. It does seem like he was struggling with his religion as well. It's my opinion that Jodi certainly used sex to get to him and try and control him. And if he was dating other women who were trying to remain chaste, someone like Jodi, who was offering up 3 holes, could've been a very tough temptation.

Travis was the perfect target for Jodi. As a normal young guy, no doubt sex was very frequently on his mind, religion or not. And he was not going to be able to get those urges fulfilled by the women he was dating. I think it's very easy for a skanky ho to manipulate a man who is sexually frustrated without many outlets to relieve it.

Mind you, I'm not saying that Travis was going to explode if he couldn't have sex. That was his choice to try and maintain for his religion. I think Jodi was bringing out his "bad boy" side. He knew he was supposed to act a certain way and not do certain things because of Mormonism, and trying to get his life straight. But, there's always this temptation, this thrill to misbehaving.

Was it leading her on? Maybe a little bit. But I think she was reading much more into it than was ever there. He tried to date her; less than 6 months; but it wasn't working. Not knowing about Mormonism and not being a very demure person myself, it's hard to identify with what he was doing and how he was acting. But, if he was a virgin when he met Jodi, I could see him giving in to the temptation for a while, acting out, then deciding he can't live that way and tried to re-devote himself to his faith.

I remember hearing -- I think it was Dr. Drew -- say that people who were abused and neglected like Travis was growing up, can fall into addictions, even sex addictions. Maybe that's what happened. He knew it wasn't right, but he kept giving in. He was trying to date the chaste Mormon girls because that's what he was "supposed to do", and he knew they weren't going to "put out", so it was easier. But, with Jodi serving up her holes on a silver platter, he couldn't say no.

It's not always easy to say no to a person who is bad for us. Some of us do better than others. Fortunately for most of us, it doesn't usually end up in murder.
    i this!

how anyone can feel any sympathy for jodi and her abuse story when compared to the abuse travis suffered is beyond me! considering his childhood, he came out of it a stand-up guy. i mean, i probably wouldn't have been his friend because i'm not into the religious, materialistic, ego thing, but i don't think he was a 'douche-canoe'.

I also remember her telling Flores about a gun she purchased during one of his interviews with her.
I bet her "story" was that she was in fear for her life from the ninjas, so she had to buy a gun and stash a couple of knives to protect herself and flee to protect her family.

I just wanted to throw it out there that my heart skips a beat every time anyone uses 'douche canoe.' it makes me so happy to see my favorite phrase spread like wild fire. :)

nyx276 I just saw your post and wanted to repeat what I said on page 799. I am in agreement that BPD takes many forms and it is a stigma that those that want help can't get away from:

I have recently been maybe diagnosed as having BPD but I'd like you to shed light on the broad spectrum of the disease just like Autism can have many variations. I have been happy to see the character in the TV show have Bipolar disorder and be the first to show you won't be homeless or a raging killer. The same goes for BPD. I am not narcissitic. I am very thoughtful of others. I have triggers that set me off based on being abandoned by my dad and his family then getting raped by a maternal uncle at 14 and told...I WAS LYING!! To keep the harmony in the family. So I have a lot of abandonment issues. But I am in therapy and I have a journal for what causes a trigger for me to get very mad. I now think things through and say, is it real or my perception? I've written letters to my Dad saying he really screwed up. My boyfriend is dealing with it but when I heard on Jane Velez Mitchell them saying oh she's BPD they are notorious for no self control, no empathy, blah blah blah. My boyfriend joked with me asking 'oh are you going to slash my tires if we break up?" it is so unfair to lump this huge spectrum of a mental disorder into being automatically assumed I'm going to kill eventually. There are 4 types of BPD from what I have heard. Jodi sounds either sociopathic or the high end scale of BPD called Narcissitic BPD. They deny any problem. I don't deny but cringe when my mood disorder makes people around me say I'll be a murderer someday!!

I did find it interesting though: she took the stand looking all meek and sad-like when she admitted to killing him and wanting to commit suicide herself, but that vanished as soon as she got an open forum and a captive audience to talk about herself. She's relaxed up there, practically smiling at some points. But as others have pointed out, her emotions don't meet her dead eyes. I've been fascinated by the subtle flashes of anger that cross her face from time to time in court. I think she's a hell of a lot more chaotic inside than what she expresses outside.

On that note, I wanted to say that the news stories characterizing her as having borderline personality disorder (BPD) seem wrong to me. A narcissistic personality and/or sociopathic personality seems more likely, and both are different from BPD. I worry about BPD being associated wrongly in the media with a person like Jodi. The stigma could cause real borderlines an even harder time as they try to achieve recovery, and speaking from my own experience, it's already a tough path to tread. http://www.lovefraud.com/blog/2012/0...he-narcissist/

It's bullshit if you ask me. How do we know Travis was a dick? Because he treated Jodi poorly? According to whom? JODI. The person that killed him brutally. There are a FEW witnesses that think Travis treated Jodi poorly at random times. Most of whom agreed that their relationship was a NORMAL relationship and they treated each other like any other NORMAL couple. Everyone has asshole moments, doesn't mean he was an abusive raping asshole. Was he smacking her around in public? No. Was he telling everyone she was just a fuck buddy? No. Was he keeping her secret? Sure... Do you know how many kids/people I knew growing up who were having sex 'secretly?' LDS members, mostly, and we only knew because we weren't elders of the church/members ourselves. IT HAPPENS, frequently. Travis was not the only person in the world to have a fuck buddy, and it is no where near his fault that SHE didn't know where the lines crossed. I'm so sick of hearing "He was a dick. She's a fucking c-word that offed a guy because he didn't wanna marry her. It's bullshit. I think we all need to take a look at who is making the allegations here: Jodi, Desiree (who was a sheltered teenager), and that's all I really count as testifying Travis was a jerk. Desiree's brother said they fought but their relationship was NORMAL. Lisa stated that he did some jerk things, but he still treated her with respect. I don't see how he was a dick. Still doesn't matter if he was one anways.
Hi ex girlfriend Deanna has a picture of them together as her FB picture in support of him. Her cover picture is also a picture of them.
I don't believe a word out of Jodi's mouth. She's just trying to save herself here and is willing to trash anyone who gets in her way.
