I wasn't blessed with any kids of my own, but I always said growing up that I'd never leave my children alone with my mother. After seeing how she treated my niece, I am confident that would have been the proper course of action.

You can pride yourself in knowing that you would not have been like that! I feel so terrible for my niece, it breaks my heart knowing that she will likely have the same self esteem issues that I had to deal with. It took me a long LONG time to be confident enough to even leave my house. I spent 4 years locked up because I thought all people were as mean as my family!
