In high school I went really light, almost white, and when I decided to go back to brown it turned green! This was of course me doing it at home with dye from CVS, but green is green. Especially since I had to walk around high school with it until I could put more color in it. My friends thought it was cool all the "popular boys" knew who I was as they teased me when I walked by. Argh...high school...you couldn't pay me to go back there!!

i had blonde with platinum streaks and tried to go back to a mousey brown. well major emphasis on tried to, it turned black with purple streaks. fun times...NOT!

it's much easier to go light to dark if you have a small amount of knowledge of hair dye and color mixing. if she was blonde and bought a generic hair dye that listed the shade as golden (light golden brown, dark golden brown) it would come out fine. the problem comes in when people use any type of 'ash' coloring. the difference is a red base or blue base.

red base + yellow (blonde) = brownish/redish/orangish, blue base + yellow = greenish/grayish/purpleish.

chances are, it would come out fine for the first week or two and start looking crappy after a few washings. to keep the color would involve several other steps because yes, the blond hair is stripped and has issues retaining color.
