We'll have to agree to disagree here. Was he a saint? Absolutely fucking not. But who is. I'd hate to see what someone would drum up on me if they absolutely had to. He was a dude. A horny, arrogant, selfish dude. You'll find one on every street corner.

I don't classify him as shitty. Was he a douche? Probably. Did he lead her on? Maybe. He was a confused guy raised to be pure and broke that rule and struggled after that. I tho at 30 he was still trying to figure out who he was. I think jodi came along and derailed his plan and he was still trying to figure it out. Then she turned up her game, moved to mesa, stalked him, etc.. He was inexperienced in the relationship dept and probably didn't know what signs to look for.

All I'm saying is it's disgusting that some want to paint Travis as poor pitiful little Travis that did no wrong and was victimized by Jodi. Yeah, he was psychically a victim but if he mind fucked her the way it's unfolding that he did, then yeah, people snap. Should she pay? Absofuckinglutley. She's a psycho. I think Travis was probably a pretty okay dude. The only person he was probably ever shitty to was Jodi. Jodi seems like an emotional, clingy, crazy chick.

For arguments sake since this is just that and none of our views are going to make it to the jury anyway...lets say he is a shitty guy, pics, not following religion etc...that matches a lot of the guys I know and I am pretty sure I am still not allowed to plan and execute a trip, kill them in that manner, lie about it, then say because he was what some call shitty, it was self defense. Self defense is killing someone for fear of ones life not for what they've done before. I feared for my life so I took a road trip later to take pics, kill him, then take more pics.

I would also like to make a point that hasn't been raised. How can Wilmont say with a straight face that in one minute, Jodi had to defend her life? Did Jodi supposedly tell Travis he had to wait while she had to run to the kitchen & get a glass of water before he beat 5 shades of shit outta her and killed her with his bare hands so she could get the knife?! FUCK NO! She had the weapon(s) on her at the moment. And she probably told Travis to keep his eyes in the camera lens so he wouldn't notice any suspicious hand movements.
Having never met Travis, I can't declare that he was a "shitty person". Judging from what I know about him, I probably would not have wanted to be friends with him as he seemed to focus too much on money, power and prestige, and that turns me off. He also seemed like a bit of a player with the ladies. However, I have known people like this, who I did not particularly care for, but who I would not classify as "shitty people". These same people could be very generous, devote time to charities or helping others, etc. He obviously had a lot of friends and family who loved him very much. It is hubristic to declare that someone you've never met and know very little about is a "shitty person".

Right, but people keep bitching about Travis' dark side being broadcast for the world to see, yet they have no problems with his imaginary sainthood being put on display. That's my argument. Don't allow for certain parts of the testimony because you hate Jodi and want to see her burn. Most of us want to see that, but let the justice system paint the full picture, no matter how disturbing. It's just hypocritical to say yeah, it's ok to talk about this but not about that.
I dont think his darkside or sainthood should be on display. All that should matter is pretty much that days events...did he give her a reason to feel she had to kill him to spare her life or not? The facts that show premeditation point me in the direction of not.
I'm friends with a lot of girls who dated him. No one of them has ever said that he treated them like shit in fact everyone of them still think very highly of him. Did he treat Jodi bad? Sounds like it. But she doesn't sound like the perfect girlfriend either. I think they were toxic together. He wasn't a shitty person. He didn't deserve to die especially in the way that he did. She chose to drive to him and kill him. She chose to come to his house to have sex. I call bullshit on the abuse or mental mind games. I think they both were using each other
When Travis was ready to move on, he should have made it a clean break. No "just friends". No phone calls. No texts. No booty calls. Jodi was like a mouse in a Skinner box. Ring the bell and get rewarded. When the rewards stop even though she rings the bell, she would keep ringing the bell for a while, but eventually give up. His big mistake was to occasionally give in to her. She rings the bell over and over again and once in a while receives the reward. Like the mouse in the Skinner box, this results in her ringing the bell even more frantically in order to receive the reward. To her thinking, if only she tries harder, she will get the reward. When it finally was obvious to her that someone else might get the reward instead, the evil planning begins.

actually, the more i hear, the more sympathetic he becomes. jodi was the user, the abuser and the manipulator.
it seems that travis was trying hard to be a better person, become successful and uphold his morals before he met her. i had heard that he was very vocal about his virgin status until he met her. i think, as someone else has posted, that he was having many issues in his own mind about his relationship with jodi, wanted out, but she wouldn't let him. he was a guy, an innocent guy. he had no idea how to handle a relationship that involved sex. he reacted how any teenager would react when faced with the pussy power. maybe it was douchey, or maybe his actions were the product of a stunted understanding of the way sexy relationships work.
His dark side looks pretty vanilla white to me, just sayin'. Especially since his mother beat the shit of him often and he was raised dirty and poor. Having religion in your life doesnt make you a good person, but he was trying. Thats more than you can say for Jodi.

IMO, even if he did get out of the shower and hit her, still no reason for 27 stabs, throat cut, and a gun shot. Now...using the same theory....if he did hit her really hard, then she picks up a razor blade or something and stabs him once with it to protect herself, then runs outside and calls the police...then I could see myself being a supporter of her.
Also, knowing that his ma beat the piss out of him often kind of makes you believe he was: 1. Used to being abused by a woman and 2. Probably held some restraint when it actually came down to his time of being murder.
Maybe he went into victim mode or had a flashback from his days of abuse. Maybe thats how Jodi was able to overcome him with somewhat ease.

actually i think it might backfire on the defense - if they had just left travis in the saint hood category i don't think the jury would have believed it, and he must have been hiding some terrible part of his personality - but by showing he was just a normal guy who liked to have sex and that she continued this relationship - exchanging pics, sexting and having phone sex - but that he still didn't want to marry her - it makes her look more vindictive and guilty of "if i can't have you then no one will"
It really all comes down to smoke and mirrors on both sides and who's able to paint the better picture or more believable picture to the jury.
I still say Martinez is hurting the states case. He's horrible. When he threw those autopsy photos down while the ex gf was on the stand you could plainly see how horrified she was. That came straight out of left field. Travis' sister jumped up and immediately ran outside too. If I were sitting on the jury I would fucking hate him.
