Tyler Wilkin, 35, was found shot in the head at Playa La Selva in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, just five minutes from his campsite on July 10.

The last text message Wilkin sent to his friends was just before 2 a.m. that day. His body was found hours later.

Telemundo Puerto Rico reported that police said they have no suspects and that the investigation remains open.

“He wasn’t just a victim of a homicide,” said his girlfriend, Iva Mo. “He was the love of my life. My best friend. Tyler deserved to come home. And he deserves some answers and our entire community deserves justice.”
In the days before his death, friends say Wilkin organized a group camping trip to Playa La Selva, which is a remote but popular spot with designated campsites where families camp regularly.

On July 8, Mo said she dropped him off at the site so he could reserve it ahead of the weekend.

That night, Wilkin messaged friends about hearing howling outside his tent and what sounded like fireworks. The next night, Wilkin told a friend that someone he called “the howler” was back.

“He had messaged that same friend and said, ‘The howler is back.’ And then he messaged two hours later, ‘Oh, this guy is getting rowdy lol,’” Mo said. Hours after sending that final text early July 10, Wilkin was found dead.
