The Honolulu Police Department spent the day trying to locate an attempted murder suspect, who police say tried to mortally wound his wife on the morning of March 24 in the Pali Lookout area.
Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old man from Maui, was on Oahu with his wife when he allegedly tried to push her off of a hiking trail and allegedly struck his wife in the head with a rock.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The suspect is employed by an independent entity, but contracted to provide services through Maui Health. When asked for comment, Maui Health said that Konig has been suspended, pending investigation.
“Maui Health is committed to patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care,” Maui Health said in a statement. “We have been made aware of the allegations against Gerhardt Konig, MD. Dr. Konig has been suspended from the Medical Staff pending investigation.”
