Long time lurker since 2008. I started reading this site during a really bad time in my life, and this site got me through that year. I?m not super witty with responses, so never commented- but did become preemie a couple of years ago. So glad to see this site is still here and to stay!! Is VBulletin no longer the top one to use for forums?
I honestly don't know the ins and outs as to why it's been such an issue, but I believe that it's due to server issues and lack of regular maintenance. Server cost as well. The owner of the board isn't as active here anymore and there are a fraction of the users that there used to be so it was more an issue of if he wanted to spend the money to maintain it anymore. I can see why that would be a problem if he doesn't really come here, but we love our little community and the history of the threads can't be beat.
Luckily, he has restored the use of it for the most part and we're still here alive and kicking!

Maybe someone needs to buy or take over the domain. I have seen many sites just disappear of the years because the owner(s) gave up.
Putting ads (like Goodle AdSense) on the actual forum to where the ads would display on forum posts would def help generate revenue to go towards the server costs.
