The wife of the man charged in the deadly, politically motivated shootings of Minnesota lawmakers in June has filed for divorce, court documents show.

Vance Boelter, 58, faces federal and state murder and attempted murder charges in connection with the deaths of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and the shootings of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette on June 14 in their respective Twin Cities homes.

Jenny Lynne Boelter filed a petition for "dissolution with child" in Sibley County earlier this month, according to court documents. The official grounds of the divorce are unknown, as Judge Amber Donley granted her request to seal "all current and future documents filed in this matter," which are to be treated as confidential.

Nearly two weeks after the fatal shootings, Jenny Boelter released a statement through her attorney, saying her husband's actions were "a betrayal of everything we hold true as tenets of our Christian faith."

I will always question how much she knew. Maybe she was completely oblivious or maybe she was ready and willing to aid and abet.

Vance Boelter has pleaded guilty to murdering Minnesota Representative and former Democratic Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman, along with her husband Mark, last year.

Boelter, 58, appeared in U.S. district court in Minneapolis on Thursday, June 11, and admitted to two counts of murder, shooting State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette and attempting to shoot their daughter Hope, stalking Hortman and Hoffman, as well as a firearms offense.
By pleading guilty, Boelter will not face the possibility of the death penalty, per court records.

As part of the deal, he agreed to be sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison plus 40 years, according to the Associated Press and CBS News.

In his first court appearance to answer to state murder charges, convicted political assassin Vance Boelter made the bizarre request that Sen. Amy Klobuchar be compelled to testify in his case.

At the Public Safety Facility in downtown Minneapolis on Monday, Boelter asked several questions of Hennepin County Judge Juan Hoyos, most pointedly asking if the court would bring Klobuchar to testify about five trips he allegedly made to Washington, D.C. to meet with elected officials before carrying out his political attacks last year.

“Does this court have the authority to bring her in to testify?” Boelter asked. “Or is she above the law?”

In a statement, Klobuchar said there was no evidence she could find of having ever met Boelter.
“We have found no record of my ever meeting or speaking with this murderer who will be spending the rest of his life in prison,” Klobuchar said. “This is the second time he has falsely brought me into his tormented web and no one should be giving him more attention.”

Boelter made other political claims in a letter to FBI director Kash Patel, which was found in a car when Boelter was on the run following the June 2025 attacks.

Federal prosecutors called the statements in the letter “delusional.”

Hoyos deflected the questions from Boelter, noting that any arguments he wants to make about his case could be made at future hearings by his attorney.
