Jason Coughran (60) missing since 5/25/2026 while hiking in Lake Tahoe, CA

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is searching for a hiker who went missing earlier this week in the Lake Tahoe area.

Officials said Jason Coughran was hiking into Desolation Wilderness from Fallen Leaf Lake before he went missing.

He was last heard from around 4 p.m. on Monday. He's believed to be possibly wearing khaki shorts and a long sleeve white and a blue shirt.

Coughran is 60 years old with brown hair, hazel eyes and an athletic build.

Saw on FB there are TONS of searchers and resources being used to search for him, like more than you usually see. Some people are wondering why, but they are getting slaughtered in the comments for it. Makes me wonder if this missing person or his family knows someone in law enforcement or something?

That is interesting. I often wonder why some cases get more attention/action from law enforcement than others do.
