Cause of Death Pie Chart

There will be a pie chart launched soon showing ALL the causes of death for both males and females on MDS.

This evening I started a tally from the very first entry. I've covered pages 70 - 106 so far. Hopefully I'll have a final tally by next week.

The pie chart will probably be updated once every few weeks.

Here are the categories in alphabetical order:

  [li]Auto Accidents (including auto-pedestrian accidents, boat accidents, ATV accidents)[/li]
  [li]Bludgeonings/Beating Deaths[/li]
  [li]Cancer (didn't include in "Medical" deaths)[/li]
  [li]"Crushing" Accident (Didn't know where to put these deaths)[/li]
  [li]Electrocutions (not including lightning)[/li]
  [li]Explosions (No war related)[/li]
  [li]Drownings[/li]
  [li]Drunk Driving Accidents (either struck by drunk driver, or the person was drunk themselves)[/li]
  [li]Falls (striking head on pavement, falling from moving vehicles, falling off cliff, falling in shower)[/li]
  [li]Fire/Smoke Inhalation[/li]
  [li]Lightning (it does strike twice)[/li]
  [li]Medical deaths (heart attacks, diabetes, etc, not including cancer)[/li]
  [li]Murderers (convicted, alleged, already put to death, including murder/suicides)[/li]
  [li]Overdoses (Drugs and Alcohol)[/li]
  [li]Plane Crashes[/li]
  [li]Shootings[/li]
  [li]Stabbings[/li]

  [li]Trains (including deaths of people in vehicles struck by train)[/li]

Car Accidents - Duh.
Stabbings - I just feel like we have a LOT of them?
Overdoses - I think this is pretty high up there for both deaths and suicides.
Drunk Driving Accidents - There are tons of these.
I am torn between War, Falling and Shooting for my 5th choice.

Sociologists and Psychologists should really come here. They could learn a thing or two. And NO I DON'T MEAN PSYGRAD!

When I was writing about my recent family death (July 9 : my sister-in-law and her husband drowned) I learned about the top three. The other two are just guesses. I went ahead and added two more because I was having trouble deciding where they should go.

What was the official "top causes of death"? Have any of the causes been amended. I ask this because of a case we had in which a pregnant girl died in an auto accident. She, her unborn child and her 4 yr old (who was in a car seat up front passenger side) were killed when she ram the back end of a semi doing in excess of 70 MPH. Death certificate read Accident. An occupant in the back seat of the car revealed that the women was upset that the person who is the "father" of the unborn child ignored her and didn't acknowledge the child.  When the injured occupant gave testimony - she stated the woman said " today I die". The death certificate was then amended to Suicide. Both families (the deceased & the "father's") had DNA testing done. Those tests confirmed the child was not the product of the stated "father".

A lot more car accidents are suicide than get reported as such.

wouldnt her sister-in-law's husband be her brother... so, naturally, wouldnt you just write "my brother and his wife?"

just found it a little strange.

and where the heck is said pie chart? i was really curious.  i am a visual learner.
