Amen Teklay (15) was found dead on Glasgow street - murder investigation opened

Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a 15-year-old boy in a violent incident in Glasgow.

Amen Teklay was found seriously injured on Clarendon Street, in the city's St George's Cross area, at around 22:30 on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said the killing was an isolated incident and detectives were keeping an "open mind" to all motives.

It is understood that the teenager, who is originally from Eritrea, lived with his father in Glasgow and had recently been granted 'right to remain' status in the UK.

Amen attended St Thomas Aquinas secondary school in Jordanhill. Headteacher Claire McInally said his death was a "shock to the school community".

A 14-year-old boy charged with the murder of Amen Teklay, 15, made no plea when he appeared in court.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with the assault and murder of Amen, an Eritrean refugee, who died from his injuries in Clarendon Street, Glasgow, at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old boy, from the Glasgow area, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, where he is due back in the next eight days.

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

A 15-year-old boy from the Glasgow area also appeared in court, charged with assault.

He made no plea, was committed for further examination and granted bail.

@Nic, I guarantee it was racially motivated. Sadly, there's a lot of the same rhetoric going around as in the U.S. with Anti Immigration bullshit and hate crimes based on it. @BWS yep, He's one of the more well known asswipes and now we have Conor McGregor in the White House. ANOTHER RAPIST just found liable a few months ago. The good news is that he's one of the most hated men in Ireland at this point. The majority here are still reasonable people that aren't falling for the crap.
