Documents obtained Wednesday in the case of a missing Titusville woman show that a man was seen walking away from her burning vehicle.
Several hours later, detectives encountered a suspicious man near the missing woman's condo. David Armstrong Barber, 35, of West Palm Beach, was arrested for loitering and prowling after detectives found him lurking in the area. Barber appeared to have significant recent burns on him. He is also the estranged boyfriend of one of Kirk's relatives.
The missing woman's vehicle was found burned up in a location near State Road 50 and State Road 520 around the same time.
A witness told police she saw Barber walking away from what appeared to be the missing woman's burning vehicle while holding his right arm.
Investigators with the Titusville Police Department are calling the circumstances surrounding Jesse Kirk's disappearance "highly suspicious" as the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the man arrested is a former corrections deputy.Police investigators stated David Armstrong Barber was arrested for loitering and prowling near Kirk's home on the 3200 block of South Washington Avenue several hours after they received a call about Kirk.In an arrest warrant affidavit by the Rockledge Police Department, a former girlfriend stated that she and Barber had dated for three years before they broke up in July 2024. According to the police report, she accused Barber of stalking her.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office stated that Barber voluntarily resigned after working with the agency from 2018 to 2022 as a corrections deputy. During his time of employment, he received no formal discipline, stated the sheriff’s office.
