The remains found at a sex offender’s home in Shinnston have been identified.
The body has been identified as Christa Merrill, of Fairmont, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Merrill had previously been reported missing.https://wvmetronews.com/2025/02/04/r...airmont-woman/The FBI is on the scene of an investigation at a sex offender’s home in Shinnston Wednesday afternoon.
According to a 5 News reporter on scene, there is a large police presence, along with members of the FBI, excavating at Andrew Debolt’s home on Owings Road.
Debolt was most recently arrested for a stabbing in Enterprise in November. Prior to that, he was arrested by the U.S. Marshals after a standoff in December of 2019.
In 2016, Debolt was sentenced to federal prison on a firearms charge. During that sentencing, they mentioned his prior felony convictions for sexual abuse and domestic violence in Harrison County, which prohibited him from having a gun.
Authorities have identified the human remains unearthed on a piece of property in Harrison County last week.
Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny said Tuesday the remains are those of Christa Merrill of Fairmont. Merrill, 34, was reported missing last August.
Additional testing is required to determine the cause of death, Matheny said.
