A Phoenix-based flight attendant died during a layover in Denver, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said Sunday.

The association identified the flight attendant as Celinda Levno, who began her career as a flight attendant in 1989.

American Airlines said in a statement that Levno was the "victim of a senseless crime" Saturday night in Denver and the incident is being investigated by Denver law enforcement. The airline did not specify the nature of the crime.

Josephine Dale, one of Levno's close friends, told ABC15's sister station Denver7 that Levno was stabbed along a walking mall in Denver around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Dale said Levno was rushed to the hospital where she died early Sunday morning after surgery.

It appears to be an outdoor mall; I read posts from people who live in the area and they said there always violent crimes happening there.

Denver police say they chased down and arrested 24-year-old Elijah Caudill on Sunday night in connection with a series of stabbing attacks over the weekend on the 16th Street Mall.

The attacks left two people dead — including Celinda Levno, an Arizona-based American Airlines flight attendant — and injured two others.

The string of stabbings started on Saturday evening at about 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of 16th and Tremont streets in downtown Denver.

The weapon was a “large butcher-style knife,” said police Chief Ron Thomas.

The victim was slashed in the face. Police didn’t connect it to the other stabbings until later in the evening because the victim took himself to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

About 10 minutes after the first stabbing, a woman was stabbed in the throat three blocks away, at 16th and California streets. She died at a local hospital. She was later identified as Celinda Levno.

About 40 minutes later, another victim, who is expected to survive, was stabbed in the arm and torso four blocks away at 16th and Lawrence streets.

The victim was sedated at the hospital, and so Thomas said police were not able to get much information from him.

Don and Valerie Caudill, the grandparents of Denver stabbing suspect Elijah Caudill, say their grandson was plagued with untreated mental health issues all his life and nursed a serious drug habit that included crystal meth, fentanyl and synthetic marijuana.

"He hears people that ain't there," said his grandfather, during an interview Monday afternoon.

"I know he has some mental problems," said Don Caudill.

While they don't know details about what happened in Denver, Don Caudill said he fears his grandson "was listening to the voices in his head."

"I knew he needed help," said his grandmother, "but I never expected that."

"I knew he had some really bad issues," said Valerie Caudill. "I'm sure he is schizophrenic. When he was growing up he was bipolar and ADD so he started out in life with mental health issues and it got worse as he got older," said the grandmother.

Yeah, this is the scary part of not having adequate mental health available to the public. You could just be out shopping and get murdered for no reason. Poor woman.
