Hanna Kobayashi (30) missing while enroute from Maui to New York City

    https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2024/1...g-los-angeles/

A Maui woman is missing and her family is desperate for answers.

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, was heading to New York City to visit family on Friday, but she missed her connecting flight out of Los Angeles.

“I didn’t hear from her,” said Kobayashi’s mother, Brandi Yee. “I texted her, ‘Hey, are you in New York City yet?’ She just texted me, ‘Not yet.’”
Hannah only had 42 minutes to make her connecting flight. Her mom thinks she might have missed it.

A short YouTube video surfacing on Thursday backs up her belief. It shows Hannah outside of an event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The last pinned location the family has on her phone shows Hannah back at LAX on Monday.

Since then, the Haiku resident has fallen silent, and her family hasn’t heard from her.

One friend, however, received strange text messages from Kobayashi’s phone.

The messages read in part, “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all my funds,” with a second message that said, “For someone I thought I loved.”

“She heard from Hannah. She was at LAX, and she said that she was scared,” Yee said.

Very odd. LAX is a cesspool; I never liked that airport.

Someone on her IG commented that her posts seem like someone who is on psychedelics.

Larie Pidgeon, Kobayashi's aunt, told USA TODAY on Sunday that the family received text messages from Kobayashi that were out of character just before her disappearance.

"On (Nov. 11), we started getting texts saying that she didn't feel safe, that someone was trying to steal her funds, that someone was trying to take her identity," Pidgeon said. "Weird things, calling us babe, things that weren't quite the normal way that she speaks."
Pidgeon said Kobayashi had been seen twice at The Grove shopping center, approximately 10 miles northeast of LAX. She was seen once around noon by employees at the shopping center's Taschen book store on Nov. 9 and was seen on video at a Nike event around 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 10. A photo from the two-day Nike and LeBron James event was posted to her Instagramthe same day.

Kobayashi returned to LAX on Nov. 11 but did not board a flight, according to the family, citing airport staffers. Kobayashi's phone, which has an Audrey Hepburn case, last pinged at LAX on Nov. 11 but has not been found.

The family released a statement Sunday night saying they had obtained surveillance footage that showed Kobayashi in the vicinity of the Pico Metro station near Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.

"In the footage it is evident that Hannah does not appear to be in good condition and she is not alone," the statement read.

The statement did not say when the footage was taken, citing the ongoing investigation, though did ask those searching for Kobayashi to focus on the area near the arena and, "remain vigilant when using the metro anywhere in the city."

I hope she is found safe. She is right at the point where schizophrenia can come to light, so that is a concern.

The 31-year-old Maui woman’s family said new information regarding her disappearance is alarming.

Hannah Kobayashi’s family said authorities showed them a video of Hannah that was taken on the evening of Monday, Nov. 11 before she disappeared.

The video has not been released to the public due to the active investigation, but Hannah’s aunt said it showed her getting off of the subway near the Crypto Arena around 10 p.m.

“She’s not alone, she’s with an unidentified person,” said Hannah’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon.

“We don’t know the city. We’re scared. I mean, as time goes on, the more time that goes on, the more our thoughts think of other things and we’re trying not to let those creep in,” Pidgeon said.

I wonder what is going on. I mean, it doesn't make sense that he would kill himself. Maybe it was the not knowing where she was or if she was safe? Overall, very sad.

It's hard to understand, for sure. I'm thinking that he felt like he failed her or that she might be dead and didn't want to live. It's not being reported publicly that he jumped, but I've heard that the family are confirming that this is what happened. Really sad.

The coroner has confirmed that is it suicide.

Ryan Kobayashi, the father of a Hawaii woman who is missing in Los Angeles, died over the weekend by suicide, the county coroner's office confirmed Monday.

Can you imagine she ends up being found safe, and she finds out while she was MIA her dad killed himself? Ugh.

Yet another eerie twist has emerged in the search for Hannah Kobayashi, the 31-year-old who disappeared after missing a connecting flight at LAX earlier this month.

The U.S. Sun revealed Tuesday night that cops are investigating a pair of strange Venmo payments she made on Nov. 9—the same day she was scheduled to arrive in New York for a “bucket list” trip and photography assignment.

Those payments—for unknown amounts—were sent to a Jonathan Taylor and a Veronica Almendarez within an hour of each other, her account shows. Her payment to Almendarez included a note with a bow and arrow emoji for her payment, while she labeled her payment to Taylor simply “reading.”

The Sun reported that a source said the payments were for a tarot card reading, which is something the “spiritual” Kobayashi was supposedly into
Prior to the November payments, Kobayashi had only made public payments on the money-sending platform on four other occasions this year. She has no prior payment history with either Taylor or Almendarez.

It makes sense the payment was referred to a "reading" because that is what they are.

Did the 2 she paid realize she was a tourist, alone, and did something to her?

Who does a bucket list at 31? Is that a thing?

Missing Hawaii Woman Hannah Kobayashi Intentionally Missed Her Connecting Flight, Police Say, Though Her Family Disagrees

Speaking at a Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners meeting on Nov. 26, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said police determined Hannah had intentionally missed her flight that day.

“On Friday November 8th, 23-year-old Hannah Kobayashi missed her connecting flight from LAX to New York, which the investigation determined was intentional,” McDonnell said.

“On November 15th our missing persons unit assumed investigative responsibility. Detectives have been diligently reviewing video surveillance and employing various investigative techniques to locate Hannah, while her family has continued their personal search efforts,” he continued, adding that authorities “remain fully committed to locating Hannah.”

On Saturday, Nov. 30, in a statement shared on Facebook that was seen by PEOPLE, Hannah’s mother and sister addressed the police investigation.

Hannah’s sister said that “it does not appear that Hannah intentionally missed her flight" and claimed she and her family were “unaware of the alleged findings presented at the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting until multiple videos of the meeting were sent to us by multiple citizens.”

“These alleged findings have yet to be relayed to my mother and I directly from the Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department or any detective involved in Hannah’s case,” Hannah’s sister further explained.

The mother and daughter went on to claim that certain details shared by McDonnell about the case in the meeting were inaccurate.

I can imagine the family is frustrated, but it seems like she might have intentionally gone missing; however, she might be in a mental health crisis of some sort.

That's what I am thinking BWS. I think her intentionally missing the flight and the multiple readings is a sign of her mental health falling apart. I am hoping that they can still find her and get her the help she needs.

I wonder what her "readings" revealed. Maybe they told her to get away for a while?

A 30-year-old Hawaii woman at the center of a missing person search in Los Angeles willfully crossed into Mexico, seemingly as part of her desire to "disconnect," police said Monday.

The case involving Hannah Kobayashi, of Maui, has been reclassified as one involving a "voluntary missing person," but it will be kept open until police are assured she's safe, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said at a news conference Monday night.

McDonnell added that there’s no evidence Kobayashi is the victim of human trafficking or foul play.

She is all over the news, so I would be shocked if she is not aware of her father's suicide by now. It is strange that this case is drawing so much publicity over others who are mysteriously missing.

She's 30, shes a grown adult. IMO too old for onset of Schizophrenia.

The "readings" indicate to me she was a lost soul looking for direction.

I think she just wants to be left alone.
