A Portland nurse who was reported missing while she was vacationing in Budapest, Hungary, has been found dead and a suspect has been arrested, according to Budapest police. New details about the investigation were released on Saturday.

Mackenzie "Kenzie" Michalski, 31, had last been heard from in the early morning hours of Nov. 5, according to her friends and family. She was originally from New York but was currently living in Portland, working as a neurosurgery nurse practitioner at Providence St. Vincent. She'd been with Providence since 2021.

"Teresa City police came into sight of a man with whom the missing girl was seen in several nightclubs; 37-year-old Irish citizen M.L.T. was identified and apprehended outside an apartment in District VII," the Hungarian press release said. "Life Protection Division detectives questioned the Irishman as a suspect in manslaughter, who confessed and showed police where he had hidden the woman's body. He was taken into custody and an arrest was initiated."

On Saturday, Budapest police shared more details about what happened in a news release, saying the man put Michalski's body in a suitcase and drove to a wooded area outside Budapest where he hid her body. The man drove back to Budapest where he was arrested. The man confessed to killing Michalski, but called it an accident, Budapest police said. The investigation showed that the man searched online for phrases including "What happens after a person is reported missing" and "How do the police handle missing person cases?", according to Budapest police.

Very tragic. I read somewhere they met at a bar; I wonder what happened that he killed her.

He wants to apologize to the parents. FUCK YOU. He tried to cover up the crime. Obviously he got rough with her and thought he could get away with it.

Apologize to her parents? Like, "I'm sorry I murdered your daughter" kind of apology? F*ck him.

Police detained the suspect, an Irish citizen, on the evening of Nov. 7. Investigators said that Michalski and the suspect met at a nightclub and danced before leaving for the man's rented apartment. The man killed Michalski while they were engaged in an "intimate encounter," police said.

"At present, it is not possible to establish exactly how the victim was killed and this is the subject of the ongoing investigation," the court said Monday.

The suspect, whom police identified by the initials L.T.M., confessed to the killing, but said it had been an accident. Police said that he had attempted to cover up his crime by cleaning the apartment and hiding Michalski's body in a wardrobe before purchasing a suitcase and placing her body inside.

He then rented a car and drove to Lake Balaton, around 90 miles southwest of Budapest, where he disposed of the body in a wooden area outside the town of Szigliget.

Video released by police showed the suspect guiding authorities to the location where he had left the body. Police said the suspect had made internet searches before being apprehended on how to dispose of a body, police procedures in missing person cases, whether pigs really eat dead bodies, and the presence of wild boars in the Lake Balaton area.

He also made an internet search inquiring on the competence of Budapest police.

If it was truly an accident, he should have called police and not try to hide her body.

And lets pretend for a minute that it was an accident (not that I think so), what were you doing that led to that kind of 'accident'. Since I have started perusing Reddit I have realized that the younger generations of men have a serious porn addition and they have watched so much that they need violent choking, forced, hitting type of sex to get off because they are so desensitized to it. Maybe that is what he was doing and he considers the fact that she died during that type of sex an accident...but I don't.

I thought about that as well, RBW. Maybe he was choking her and she passed out or something. Still, something happened that led to her death and he tried to hide it instead of doing the right thing. I highly doubt an apology to her parents will do any good.
