A woman in Fairbanks was charged with murder three weeks after her five-year-old son was found dead inside a downtown apartment.
The Fairbanks Police Department said Monday in a statement that 43-year-old Cedar Sarten is still receiving medical treatment from injuries that investigators say appear to have been self-inflicted on the night that her son was found dead in a 10th Avenue apartment.
Sarten has been charged with first-degree murder.Police officials say Sarten called police around 10 a.m. on Oct. 14 claiming that someone had hurt her son and that “he was definitely dead.”
The five-year-old boy was found on the bed and there was no one else in the apartment and no signs of a break-in, police say. Officers found a 20-pound “kettlebell-style” weight and two knives in the room — one on the bed and another on the floor. Police said there was a lot of blood throughout the place.
Investigators said that an autopsy suggested that his cause of death was from “blunt force trauma to his head,” and that he also sustained “multiple injuries consistent with being harmed with a sharp object.”https://www.alaskasnewssource.com/20...-year-old-son/Fairbanks police said multiple people who knew her said she had been acting different than normal.
Police added that Sarten tried to hurt the boy in a previous incident in July 2020 that occurred at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
