University of Tampa student Brianna Moore, 19, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect with great bodily harm, after authorities found the baby’s body in a trash can in April.
Prosecutors said Moore’s roommates heard sounds of a baby crying and found blood in the shared bathroom of their dorm on April 27.Moore denied being pregnant and told an officer the blood in the bathroom was from her period, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office said.
The following day, her roommates allegedly found a bloody towel inside Moore’s trash can and called police once again.
Officers arrived to find the child’s body hidden in a towel, prosecutors said.
Later that day, Moore admitted to police that she delivered the baby in the bathroom and held the child tightly to her body until she stopped crying.An autopsy revealed the infant had multiple fractured ribs along her spine and hemorrhaging in her lungs.
The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was asphyxia due to compression of the torso with the manner of death being homicide.
