Body of missing man Chad Mullen found in FL, long-time girlfriend charged with 1st degree murder

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Family members of a Putnam County man who had been missing since early September said they are devastated by the news that his body was just found buried in a shallow grave in rural St. Johns.

Chad Mullen was reported missing in Putnam County almost two months ago and authorities found his body late Monday in Hastings. The case was ruled as a homicide.

Mullen’s family reported him missing on Sept. 13 after he never showed up to his brother’s wedding.

Chad’s daughter, Holli Mullen said she is heartbroken, and this was not the outcome she and the whole community wanted. She said the family is hopeful they will learn who is responsible for Chad’s death and get justice for him.

Chad’s daughter said her father had no connection to the place where he was found buried.

His “on again, off again” girlfriend, Caylen Deller, has been named as a person of interest; however, no arrests have been made in the case.

Police announced Friday they had arrested Mullen's "on again, off again" girlfriend Caylen Deller, who had been a person of interest in his disappearance in September, and then named a person of interest in his murder.

Deller is charged with first-degree murder, meaning police believe the killing was premeditated.

Police says that the investigation zeroed in on Deller and her accused accomplice, Tina Marie Lee-Ellis, 56. Lee-Ellis turned herself into the sheriff's office. She is facing charges of accessory to first-degree murder after the fact.

Police say that Lee-Ellis used to work at the property where the body was found.
