Scott Peterson and the Menedez brothers are two cases that I don't understand people trying to work with. There are PLENTY of cases where people that are most likely innocent need help with. Not this.

@RBW, I COMPLETELY AGREE! There are SO MANY people behind bars that are clearly innocent and instead they're going after high profile cases to free people that I believe are clearly guilty. It feels like the Innocence Project have now turned to taking what will get them in to the media instead of what they were intended for. It's kind of gross and I'm losing some respect for them.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the Menedez Brothers, they DID kill them, they DID plan it and then they DID start splashing money around after the fact. I have sympathy for any child of SA, but that doesn't give you a free pass to murder and then celebrate with the inheritance. There's a slew of people who were SA'd when they were children that manage to go through the rest of their lives without murdering people. It doesn't mean you get out of jail free just because you were assaulted when you were a kid.

Im losing respect for the Innocence project as well. When they took on Scott Peterson's case I was very disgusted.

Ive been watching all the doc's and listening to podcasts, and is it true Eric didnt shoot them? I feel like hes the least evil of the two.

The team that took on Peterson's case is not associated with the actual Innocence Project run by Barry Scheck. There are offshoots of Innocence Project throughout the country.

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón on Thursday filed a motion recommending a judge resentence the siblings – a decision that was the culmination of a review that came after defense attorneys said in 2023 they had new evidence pointing to abuse by their father.

A hearing on the matter could be held in 30 to 45 days, when a Los Angeles Superior Court judge will ultimately decide whether the brothers will be resentenced.

Gascón said he supports the resentencing of the brothers to life with the possibility of parole – which normally would mean 50 years to life in prison. But because the crimes happened when the brothers were under 26 years old, they would be eligible for youthful parole under California law.

I think voluntary manslaughter is rather ambitious.

Attorney Mark Geragos says he may try to get the Menendez brothers' conviction for murder reduced to voluntary manslaughter in a new effort to expedite their potential releases.

Geragos, who has promised to have them home by Thanksgiving, is angling to fast-track their possible release from prison by convincing a judge in Los Angeles to reduce Eric and Lyle Menendez's conviction.

"I think they're cautiously optimistic that they can see some real relief at this point," Geragos said in an interview with Good Morning America.
    https://abc7.com/post/menendez-broth...hter/15484934/

Under California Penal Code § 192 PC, voluntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being that occurs:

    * During a sudden quarrel,
    * In the heat of passion, or
    * Based on an honest but unreasonable belief in the need to defend yourself.

Voluntary manslaughter is a felony carrying 3, 6, or 11 years in California State Prison or probation with up to 1 year in county jail.
    https://www.shouselaw.com/ca/defense/penal-code/192/

No premeditation is associated with involuntary manslaughter, so that is why I think going for it will be questionable from what we know about the case.

Per TMZ, Geragos is also asking Gavin Newsom for clemency.

Mark Geragos, the attorney repping the Menendez brothers, joined us Tuesday on "TMZ Live" and told us he's filing documents today asking Gavin Newsom for clemency.

That's pretty significant on its own, and sources connected to the Governor's office tell us they have the clemency petition on their radar ... which is pretty interesting, considering Newsom talked about the Menendez brothers in a recent podcast.

Gov. Newsom weighed in on Erik and Lyle's situation on "Politickin' with Gavin Newsom, Marshawn Lynch, and Doug Hendrickson" ... saying he was told to keep an eye out for them because of the Netflix documentary, and praising Ryan Murphy for producing a compelling show.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon announced last month that he would recommend the brothers be resentenced after support ramped up for the pair.

Some experts believe they could be out in time for Christmas.

While many prisoners struggle to find work after being released, there could be some seriously lucrative deals waiting for Erik and Lyle if they are granted an early release.

Previous 'Son of Sam' laws which restricted a convicted criminal from profiting off their crimes in California were found to be unconstitutional, and therefore the brothers would be allowed to profit off their story.

There will likely be more press, TV streaming, and book deals available to the brothers if they are released.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will delay his decision on clemency for Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, until the newly elected Los Angeles County district attorney completes his review of the case, Newsom’s office said Monday.

I think that is fair. I know there are so many pushing for them to be released before the holidays, but we need to keep in mind the brutality of the crime(s).

The wife of Lyle Menendez has announced their separation after more than 20 years of marriage.

Rebecca Sneed, Lyle's second wife, made the announcement on a Facebook page bearing his name that she runs.

"This is NOT a cheating scandal," Sneed wrote. "Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family. I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years."

I truly do not understand how you could be married to someone in that situation if you were not married to them before it happened.

That makes sense Nic. Why announce the seperation now, when they have been seperated for awhile?

He apparently has a new girlfriend, so I think she was trying to get ahead of the story and say that he didn't cheat on her; rather they were already separated.

I like my concept better lol.

Girl: he is innocent, I believe it so much so that I married him. He is not dangerous!
    *guy gets released*
Girl: sorry, this just isn't working out.

Yep. I have often wondered why women get involved with prisoners/murderers.
