Brian Crossman (46), Erica Crossman (41) and Colin Taft (13) shot to death in their home in Vermont

A Vermont town official, his wife and her son were found shot to death in their home over the weekend, state police said.

Police identified them Tuesday as Brian Crossman, 46, a selectboard member in Pawlet; Erica Crossman, 41; and Colin Taft, 13. The town of about 1,400 people is near the New York state line.

They were found dead Sunday, Vermont State Police said in a news release Tuesday night. All three deaths were ruled homicides.

Police said their investigation was active and no one was in custody. However, CBS affiliate WCAX reports sources say police have identified a person of interest who is a relative of the victims.

State police said autopsies determined Brian Crossman's cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head and torso, Erica Crossman died from a gunshot wound to the head, and Colin Taft's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

I saw posts about this on Twitter (refuse to call it X) saying Brian's older son with Asperger's or autism might have been the one who shot them.

That would make sense BWS. Makes more sense than a rando taking out a whole family.

Crossman Sr.'s son -- Brian Crossman Jr., 22, of Granville, New York -- now faces three counts of aggravated murder in connection with the fatal shootings of his father, stepmother and stepbrother, Vermont State Police said Friday.

"The Vermont State Police investigation identified significant evidence that linked Crossman Jr. to the killings, including digital information, statements, injuries, and various interviews," Vermont State Police said in a statement.

I was just about to mention that the 13 year old seemed to be targeted as being personal since he suffered multiple gunshot wounds while the parents didn't look like overkill. It's obvious that this was a blended family and the older brother wasn't happy about the situation.

The nature of this forum and this particular post has me reflecting on the fact that life is so terribly fleeting. One minute you're here, then BAM, gone. We see it so many times here, too. Someone logs into their facebook page earlier in the day, and minutes to hours later they are gone...and we read about it days/weeks/months, even years later in an article.

And yet again we have senseless deaths. These three should still be alive and thriving. Maybe keeping these weapons out of the hands of children is a bad idea, no? I mean, I don't know of course, I've only been saving their lives for the last 30 years, what the fuck do I know.

Sure, he was an adult. But with his disability it could mean that his mind was much more childlike in many ways. Unfortunately, life is no Nintendo game. That's it, over. Now all that is left is to try and make sense of the senseless. To find hope where there is none. This kid wasted an entire family because he likely couldn't express his feelings adequately about it.

I feel horrible for Brian, Erica, and especially Colin. Brian really is going to suffer now, he has no one to truly advocate for him. No one to truly have his back when things are at their hardest. His family is gone, and it was all his fault. He may never realize the gravity of his actions, or the heartbreak he has caused those who know and love Colin, Brian and Erica. Nobody wins here.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
