I grew up in a super rural far right area. Yes, kids (boys and girls) learn to shoot and get guns at a young age to hunt with. There is a huge difference between a hunting rifle though, and an assault rifle. Also, if your kid is messed up and threatening to shoot up a school they shouldn't even get a BB gun.

I agree with what you said there's no way these parents should have given this kid a gun they knew he was fucked up! Seems like they are starting to charge these parents now.....I dont remember exactly when it was but a mom & dad were charged and found guilty last year when their kid killed some people, I think in Chicago?!
Right? My brother took his rifle to school for public speaking class. He gave a demonstration on how to break down and clean a weapon. He used hunt before/after school and left it in his locker. Very different times.

Yes, I think you're talking about the Crumbley(sp?) case. Very similar situation to this one. I don't necessarily think parents should be held liable for everything their children do, they need life lessons too; but a responsible gun society would insist on consequences to gun owners who put weapons in the hands of mentally/emotionally disturbed children. It only seems logical to hold responsible the owner of the weapon, the one who purchased it/made it available (whether knowingly or thru negligence).

As for this being a Christmas gift... it boggles my mind that a parent would do this. It's like handing a loaded gun to a toddler, this level of negligence is criminal.

    Not even a water pistol.
You are talking to a woman who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom and chuckled at catastrophe.

Also in theory, he could wait till February next year accept a plea a deal and refuse again which will have to reschedule his court date again for another court date.

Mom of suspect in Georgia school shooting indicted and is accused of taping a parent to a chair

The mother of a Georgia teenager charged with fatally shooting four people at his high school has been indicted in connection with an alleged domestic incident last year.

The indictment handed down Monday charges Marcee Gray, 43, with exploiting an elderly person and other crimes in Ben Hill County, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. It appears unrelated to the school shootings at Apalachee High School, which occurred in a different Georgia county nearly 200 miles (320 kilometers) away.
The indictment charging Marcee Gray stems from a domestic incident late last year, the Atlanta newspaper reported. It said a police incident report states Gray's 74-year-old mother told authorities Nov. 4 that Gray had taken her phone, taped her to a chair and left her for nearly a full day.

The incident report said Gray bound her mother before traveling to Barrow County to confront her ex-husband, who lived with their son and two other children. The Atlanta newspaper said records show Gray was arrested in Barrow County on Nov. 6, two days after her mother was found and was sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to charges of criminal trespassing, using a license plate to disguise her car and causing property damage.

Gray has said she called her son's high school the morning of the shootings to warn the staff after Colt Gray sent her a text message saying, “I'm sorry.” Days later, she issued a statement saying her son “is not a monster.”
    What a lovely family.
