ORANGEBURG, S.C. — An Orangeburg man has been arrested after remains were found under a backyard firepit in Horry County.
Sheridan Dirk Fogle, 54, of Orangeburg is charged with the murder of Penni Whiteside in Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach police say Whiteside was originally reported missing on May 11, 2022.
According to a police report, Whiteside had been living with Fogle in the 600 block of 1st Avenue South. After speaking with neighbors, police said there was reason to believe that she may have been buried near the home, in the backyard under a firepit.
On June 12, 2024, investigators obtained a search warrant for the property in question. During the search, police say the Whiteside's remains were recovered and identified.
