A 20-year-old Virginia Tech student was reported missing after he suddenly vanished on Friday and has not been seen since.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are searching for Johnny Roop who was last seen at his apartment complex in Merrimac sometime Friday, the university said.

Roop was expected at his parent’s home in Abingdon by 5 p.m. that day to take an online exam but he never showed, according to the school officials.

He was expected to make the roughly hour-and-40-minute drive to be there in time.

It's not boding well at all. One of two things happened. Either he took off which isn't unlike college students that are under pressure and it's possible that he even committed suicide. His Mom mentioned that his phone pinged at a Mall that was nowhere near where he was supposed to be travelling. You would think that if he did himself in that his car would be found though. Which is why the other possibility is that he was attacked and they took his car. Either way, it's not looking good because of this:

Roop’s mother shared on Facebook that her son’s phone had been dead for at least two days which was “highly unlike him” as she pleaded for help to find him.

Yes you would think he had a tablet or laptop for school.

Thursday was the 15th and he appeared normal; then on Friday his behavior was abnormal.

He was normal at dinner the night before but the next day his behavior was out of the norm.

I think he took off because of the pressure. It says the exam was due on the 16th which implies that it was an online exam with a deadline instead of a set time to have to take it. If he still didn't have it done by the 15th then he was letting it get down to the wire. He probably cracked under the pressure, which happens with many college students, and took off. Now that he's considered a missing person, he probably doesn't know what to do. This is why his car is missing, because he's with his car.

My guess (and hope) is that he'll be found safe, no foul play is suspected and the family will "ask for privacy during this time".

I wonder if they've checked his bank activity. They don't mention that. Only that his phone is off.

And Boston, my mind went there, too. With a kid in college I always worry about the pressure he can have. I always tell him not to worry, just do your best, you DON'T HAVE to get straight A's.

This last semester he got straight A's....lol.

I'm still stuck on the exam. He didn't need to go to his parents house to take it. It just seems very odd to me.

Missing Virginia Tech student seen in Missouri

A Virginia Tech student reported missing last week has been seen at a restaurant in Missouri, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators report tracking Jonathan Roop, 20, to the restaurant in Poplar Bluff the afternoon of February 21. They say Roop was alone and left the restaurant when he was being identified by an employee. Roop then drove away unaccompanied in his car (seen below).

Local law enforcement was alerted and tried unsuccessfully to locate him, but has continued looking.

Yeah, I think I'm on the right track with this. As mentioned before, he obviously has to have access to money if he's eating at restaurants and burning gas driving around. They should be tracking his bank activity. Even if he's using cash, he would still need to take money out to do that and there are limits to how much he can withdraw by ATM.

I'm hopeful that he'll finally come home or stop running, I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid before then.

I am sorry, as I should have posted the content of the article. Here it is:

The Montgomery County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office said Saturday afternoon that previously reported missing Virginia Tech student Jonathan “Johnny” Roop has been located in Missouri.

A release from the sheriff’s office said law enforcement made “personal contact” with Roop on Friday in Missouri. The release said Roop was by himself when officers made contact and fully answered questions when asked by police.

Based on the interaction with law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said Roop is no longer considered missing and the investigation into his disappearance was closed.
