Authorities are investigating a mysterious homicide after a human head and hands were found in a freezer at a recently sold Colorado home.

The discovery was made on Jan. 12 at a residence in Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to a call for a "suspicious incident" around 2:30 p.m.

People cleaning out the property discovered what they believed to be human remains, the sheriff's office said. They were found in a freezer, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

An autopsy conducted by the Mesa County Coroner's Office this week confirmed that the remains were a human head and hands, the sheriff's office said Thursday.

Why would you not take the head and hands with you when you move?

ID on head, hands case still months out

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office is narrowing in on the identity of a human head and hands found in a recently-sold residence in January, but it could still be months before an identity of deceased person is released.

“We have a good idea who it is,” Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlik said Tuesday.

An autopsy of the head and hands has been conducted.

The remains are currently undergoing DNA testing through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Havlik said. The Coroner’s Office has put a “rush” on the job, he said, but getting a positive identity could still take months.

To make the positive identification, the DNA from the remains is being compared to DNA in various databases, Havlik said.

“We’re optimistic, hopefully in the next couple months,” Havlik said, noting the process normally could take up to a year or more.

Ok but what about the old home owners? Questioned? Arrested?

@Angie - I haven't seen anything about them being investigated, but surely they have been/are being investigated.

A human head and arms found in a freezer in Grand Junction early this year have been identified as belonging to a 16-year-old girl, the Mesa County coroner's office said Friday.

All of the body parts were found to belong to 16-year-old Amanda Overstreet, who the coroner's office said was a resident of both Grand Junction and the Harris County, Texas areas.

The remainder of her body has not been located, but her death is being investigated as a homicide.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, Overstreet was the biological daughter of the previous owner of the home. The agency said she has not been seen or heard from since April 2005 when she would have been about 16. They said there are no records that show she was ever reported missing.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Wendy Likes told DailyMail.com that Amanda was the biological daughter of the widowed homeowner Leanne, 55 – and Leanne’s late husband Bradley was Amanda’s stepfather.

Likes declined to comment whether the biological father had been identified or interviewed by police.
Bradley died age 61 on July 7, 2021, from a cardiac arrest after getting a bad case of Covid-19, according to local reports.

The next day, Leanne posted a fundraiser for his funeral and hospital bills on Facebook. The couple had two children of their own, Elsie Belle and Anthony Imer.

The house was foreclosed and apparently very hoarderly (I made up that word) outside and inside the house. There's some dirt on Facebook. Her friends and extended family members kept asking questions and were told by her biological mother to leave it alone, that she just ran away. No one could report her missing but her immediate family and they never did.
Her grandmother adopted her around age 3 but then the grandmother became ill with cancer and died. It appears Amanda then went back to her biological mother, who then came up with some story that she was driving her to another town (because she couldn't handle her) and stopped at a gas station and Amanda "ran away" and was never seen again.

Also, I heard the biological mother not only lives in the same town, she lives down the street.

Thanks for that info! I was trying to get more on her being missing but not being reported, but when I googled her name all I got were recent stories of her remains being identified.

I hope they arrest bio mom.

Sixteen-year-old Amanda Overstreet, whose severed head and hands were discovered in her mother's freezer, had a 'bullet hole' in her forehead, a witness in her gruesome murder probe has revealed.

In a new twist, DailyMail.com has learned exclusively that the Grand Junction homebuyer has claimed there was a 'bullet hole' in Amanda's forehead making it appear she had been killed 'execution-style'.
