Very sad. Hopefully hes spending quality time with loved ones.

I've lost people in my life who drank themselves to death. Friends younger than him, too. It's very, very sad. Some people just can't beat that demon.

I have a brother who teeters on that line. He's been through rehab, been hospitalized w/ neurological trauma and brain bleeds, broken bones, loss of job, loss of another job and he just keeps drinking. He's been fired by several sponsors at AA. And still he ends up going back to drinking. It's heart breaking. He and I are the last two of our family, our folks are both gone now and he just keeps jumping off the wagon then going back to AA to get his pats on the head for being honest about drinking again. I don't get it. I guess I never will.

I was just responding to the thread with his story added. I am so sorry for his family and friends. Their hearts must be broken today.

I saw the video of him in concert before he retired, and it was rough.

He did have some really good times though, churning out hits and living large. His music came out when I was young, and I loved it. I choose to remember him from that era, spiky hair and goatee.

They were a fun band. I got to see them when they were first on the scene, on a double bill with Third Eye Blind. It was a cool show.

I wish things had worked out differently for him, and this makes me sad. He see4med like despite his problems he was a really good guy.

That's the thing. Alcoholism doesn't make a person horrible. At least for most (not my father) they're actually really good people with a really bad problem.

Oh, I know. Alcoholism knows no bounds. So many wonderful people that I know struggle with it.

I find this terribly sad. He lost a child at six months old, which likely did not help his struggles. RIP.

Yeah, well. Seems that he has a history of extreme right behavior so I feel a little less bad for him now. I'm sorry that he lost a baby, but that doesn't give you the right to become a Nazi sympathizer. Alcohol also doesn't make you that way so.......

Like I said. Alcoholism can turn you in to a monster, but it doesn't make you a racist unless you already were.
