Karen Read (42) accused of hitting her police officer boyfriend, John O'keefe, with a car and leaving him to die in a snowstorm; she claims another police officer was invoved in his death

Outside a courthouse last month in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, supporters swarmed around Karen Read, a woman charged with killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O?Keefe, in January 2022.

Prosecutors allege Read hit O?Keefe with her car and left him to die in the middle of a snowstorm after the two got into an argument earlier in the day.
Now, Read?s defense is making national headlines after her lawyers alleged in court documents that a fellow police officer was involved in O?Keefe?s death and colluded with others in a coverup. After posting bail, Read has spent much of the past 18 months in and out of court.

In a statement to ABC News, the prosecution says, ?There was no conspiracy or coverup. Such claims have been systematically refuted by evidence submitted to Norfolk Superior Court."

Well, it's hard to say if she actually did this or not. They were obviously completely plastered and anything could have happened. There are a few things that pique my interest though and lead me to believe that she's innocent. I was leaning towards her being responsible until I saw this:

Investigators reported finding ?fragments of broken glass on the rear bumper? on Read?s vehicle and that a broken cocktail glass was found by what appeared to be patches of blood near O?Keefe?s body.

?The victim Mr. O'Keefe is last observed on surveillance video with a cocktail glass in his right hand. Same arm that is injured, the same type of glass that is recovered from the defendant's car,? prosecutors said.
She claims that he went inside and she stayed in the car and waited for him to come and get her. When he didn't come back to get her, she drove home upset at him. When he didn't return in the morning, she went out WITH two others to search for him. One of the people of which was the fiance of the guy whose house they went to. Why did neither of them notice this glass on her bumper? And how did the glass stay on there while she was driving around so much? She drove home and then they drove around searching for him, yet the glass was just still there on her bumper? If she had intentionally hit him, don't you think that she would check out her car to make sure that there wasn't any evidence left over from that? It sounds planted to me.

I could easily see her getting upset and leaving given the history of him partying all of the time and leaving her to take care of the kids. I could also easily see him going in to the dude's house, not bothering to go get her, partying with the other cop and having them get in to some drunken fight or something. Then shifting the blame on to her in order to cover it up.

Also, this was the home of a cop. Does this dude not have surveillance cameras? Did he not hear the commotion outside and check it out? It's hard for me to believe that this guy was hit and his body was laying outside the house and he didn't notice anything at all or have video footage of what happened.

It could go either way, but there's plenty that isn't making sense in this case.

The latest chapter in the Karen Read saga moves to the state’s highest court, where her attorneys Wednesday are hoping to convince judges that several charges related to the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend should be dropped.

Read’s attorneys argue she is being framed and that other law enforcement officers are responsible for O’Keefe’s death.

The defense reiterated arguments made in briefs to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court that trying Read again on charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene would be unconstitutional double jeopardy.

Defense attorneys said five jurors came forward after her mistrial to say that they were deadlocked only on a manslaughter count and had agreed that she wasn’t guilty on the other counts. But they hadn’t told the judge.
The defense also argued that affidavits from the jurors “reflect a clear and unambiguous decision that Ms. Read is not guilty” and support their request for a evidentiary hearing on whether the jurors found her not guilty on the two charges.

The defense also argued that the judge abruptly announced the mistrial in court without first asking each juror to confirm their conclusions about each count.

I mean, I still don't think she did it. Did NOTHING happen to the other cop?

I say this as if I'm supposed to be surprised.
