The Cape Coral Police Chief say there is now a person of interest in the Cape Coral missing man case.

Authorities said Schmalbach was last seen or heard from 16 days ago. This contradicts the previous timeline when a police report showed Schmalbach?s boyfriend claimed to see him get into an unknown car the next day.

The search for missing person Barry Schmalbach continues with another piece in this very mysterious puzzle.

A letter telling Christopher Davis, Schmalbach?s boyfriend, to get out immediately appeared on the door of the Cape Coral condo yesterday.

Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the boyfriend is involved.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Christopher Davis for the murder of Barry Schmalbach.

Davis, 35, is currently being held in a South Carolina jail on unrelated charges.

Davis was Schmalbach’s boyfriend and was the last person believed to have seen him alive.

Schmalbach’s remains have not been located.

On July 19, 2023, court documents Fox 4 Senior Reporter Kaitlin Knapp first brought you, police say a neighbor in Schmalbach's condo complex heard a commotion followed by whimpering.

Court documents show Davis bought a tarp, tape, a shovel and pick-axe over two days.

Police searched in different areas for Schmalbach based on where Davis was, but to this day, they have not found his body.

Davis is expected to be back in court on August 29.
