Im glad the mother and daughter are alive and stable. I feel really bad the daughter is paralyzed by this asshole. Im guessing he stabbed her in the back when she was trying to get away. What a fucking asshole.

It could have been a lot worse if the hero bystander didnt step in. He really is a hero.

No question to me, it's our culture. We have done everything we can to tell men that women are their property. She broke up with him and his ego couldn't take it. Combine that with being young and impulsive and you have a recipe for disaster.

Back in the early 2000's one of my husband's co-workers brought his teenage son to several of our Sunday football get-togethers. He was nice, super polite and was very smart. He later had a job at a grocery store near me and he remembered me and would always say "hello Mrs. RBW" (of course I was like 30 at the time so it made me feel old, lol, but the point is that he was very well mannered and nice). Years later, after we moved away, someone sent me a link to a story about a stabbing at a local campus. A kid had stabbed his ex gf after she broke up with him and then stabbed himself. The name in the story is slightly different than the name he actually went by, so it took me a minute to figure out who it was about. I was blown away. He is the last person I would have thought would do something like that, but he did it. I will link the story in preemie.

Teen who survived stabbing reveals attack left her paralyzed from the chest down, but she believes she’ll walk again

A local teenager who was stabbed more than a dozen times outside of a Ponte Vedra Beach restaurant last month revealed during a news conference Friday that the attack left her paralyzed from the chest down.

Madison Schemitz, 17, was surrounded by her family and friends at Brooks Rehabilitation as she spoke publicly for the first time Friday, sharing an update on her recovery process and saying she believes everything happens for a reason. She said she will only look forward now.

“I’m incredibly lucky to be alive today,” Schemitz said. “I will take each day as its own opportunity to live and make a difference in the world.”

She plans to begin making that difference by starting a One Love Foundation chapter at her high school. The goal of the national nonprofit, named for University of Virginia student Yeardley Love, is to end relationship abuse by empowering young people with the tools and resources they need to spot the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

St. Johns County man accused of stabbing, paralyzing ex girlfriend pleads not guilty to all charges

An 18-year-old charged with stabbing his ex-girlfriend and injuring her mother and a good Samaritan outside a Ponte Vedra Beach restaurant early last month was arraigned Friday and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Spencer Pearson is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery in the attack that left Madison Schemitz, 17, paralyzed from the chest down. Kennedy Armstrong, the good Samaritan who intervened during the attack, was also badly injured and underwent surgery.

Pearson has remained inside the St. Johns County jail, being held without bond. He attempted to cut his throat immediately after the attack. He survived and was hospitalized.

Surveillance video showing the attack was released to media outlets earlier this month, outlining what occurred from the moments Pearson entered the restaurant, to the attack in the parking lot.
If you click on the link above there is a link to the video in the article.

I think it's this statement that says it all. She is amazing:

“I’m incredibly lucky to be alive today,” Schemitz said. “I will take each day as its own opportunity to live and make a difference in the world.”

    https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/...r-cte-testing/

Sentencing for a teen who stabbed three people outside a Ponte Vedra Beach restaurant in June of 2023 has been pushed back as he undergoes testing for chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as CTE.

In court filings, attorneys for Spencer Pearson said they are just now learning that new science shows signs of CTE can be detected in brain scans for living subjects, including in young athletes.

Pearson, who was 18 at the time of the crime, was supposed to be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to aggravated battery and two counts of attempted murder. He stabbed his ex-girlfriend 17 times, as well as her mother and a bystander who tried to help, before attempting to slash his own throat.

On Oct. 18, a week before Pearson was set to be sentenced, his attorneys asked the court to push it back, writing, “An underlying issue in the case is whether Defendant’s suffering repetitive head impacts (RHI) over the course of him playing tackle football from the ages of 6 through 18 causes him to suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).”
Pearson’s sentencing has been rescheduled for Nov. 22.
Curious on everyone's thoughts on this.

    Also, this is good news!

Schemitz was initially unable to walk but has since made steady progress in her rehabilitation — and was even able to walk across the stage at her high school graduation.

Hm, I guess I was under the impression that CTE can make people suicidal (depressed) but can it also make you violent toward others?

I guess when I really think about, we shouldn't be playing sports that can damage someone THAT bad. And if you choose to, you have to suffer the consequences to what happens, including getting a brain injury that makes you stab people.

Yes CTE can cause violence. Brain injury can cause impulsive behaviour and this can go hand in hand with violence. I think something needs to change, especially with sports like football and boxing. And this young man was playing since he was a child so I would put that responsibility on parents.

One of my brother's played football and now he is coaching teenagers.

I wonder why they waited until now to test him for CTE?

It is odd that he acted out the way he did, so I would be curious to see if he does have CTE. However, that can only be diagnosed after death; therefore, I think the defense using CTE might be challenging.

BWS - it says this: "new science shows signs of CTE can be detected in brain scans for living subjects, including in young athletes"

Though since it's new, I wonder how accurate it is.

Do 6 year old play tackle football?? I feel like it should only be flag football until they are much older.

@Nic - I do hope they figure out a way to better diagnose it. Right now, the only definitive way is through autopsy.

It seems like awfully convenient timing to come up with this. Regardless, even if you have CTE it doesn't give you a free pass to go killing people. CTE or not, his motivations for this attack were based in misogyny.

To me, this feels like a "Hail Mary" on the part of the lawyers.

Yeah I was under the impression a CTE was like rabies and could only be detected after death.

Nic-yes they have football for 6 year olds, but its not tackle.

I know a guy who literally survived being shaken as a baby, and is now a violent rapist.

Chubby's was the name of the hangout spot on Boy Meets World. Let me guess, no one watched that show?

I've never heard of Chubby's but we do have a "Tugwood Park" in my city. Wonder how many people that name went through before getting approved.

I am pretty sure the Mr. Chubby's I am familiar with are only in the Jacksonville, Florida area, but I can be wrong ~ maybe there is one in Tugwood Park that you don't know about.
