Jacob seemed damaged to me...emotionally damaged. His mannerisms remind me of my bonus son who has Aspergers. He is a genius, but he often lacks social skills and comes across as a bit awkward.

I got the same vibe. I think that he's still not speaking to his mother. She had to really do some messed up stuff to him. I can't imagine dealing with his dramatic ass father is fun. Poor young man. I was reading on Reddit and Webslueths and it seems that he only focuses on what's interesting to him and he was allowed to graduate by taking classes that only intrest him. For example, all of his classes were in science. I think that's a pretty cool option to have. I think that he's working on his PhD if he doesn't have it already.

Yeah, that part was weird. She stalked a neighbor then called 911 to tell them she doing it and felt like harming them.

Christine forced her to make that call. She also took her around to all of the neighbors and made her tell them that she was a stalker and tried to kill her parents. I need to find out where I read that. I think that I read that she called 911 a few times so the police could come out because she was lonely. That made me really sad to read. Webslueths has 2 very long threads on this family.

I also think that the first apartment was some type of low income disabled housing. The second apartment is when the Barnetts were living in Canada. Even when Michael came back to Indiana, he didn't visit that poor child. It's almost like they treated her as if she was subhuman.

That is really neat that they allowed him to complete his degree like that. It really makes sense when you think about it. I mean, who here uses Algebra in their everyday life? Focusing on what the child is interested in allows them to thrive.

Wow, I had no idea Christine was behind it, but it now makes sense. The damage she and the dramatic Michael did to her is horrendous.

It really is, and they've not touched on the sexual abuse yet. I look at my 7 year old and wonder if they would allow me to age him to 22. I don't think that they would. However, dwarfism isn't something that a lot of people are familiar with. There's a unconscious blindness that society and people in general and they took that bias that society has and committed this atrocious act.

They grifted their way to a bit of wealth at one point. I didn't know that I could start a charity, appoint all of my family and friends to the board and use all of the grant money to pay myself and my board members.

I can't watch it since they don't carry HBO Max over in Ireland, but this whole story is SO bizarre. I'll have to find another way to take a deep dive on it. Youtube is my only friend

We are half way through season 2 and wow, I have a lot of observations. I completely believe Natalia and know she was victimized by so many. Michael Barnett remains cray cray. He is so dramatic that it is annoying to watch him. One concern I have is with Natalia's guardians. They are super religious (not my concern, really), but there is something that just isn't jiving with me about them. I believe they have like 10 children they foster, including Natalia. All the children seem really happy and interact lovingly with her in the show. Given what she has been through her entire life, I just worry that she is still being taken advantage of. I mean, why is she doing the show? I can see it is a way for her to have her experience out there. But bottom line, she is making money. Yes, she deserves any money she gets. But, what are her guardians in it for? Are they going to try to profit off of her and her experiences in the future? For some reason I can see a full blown reality series with Natalia and this family in the future.
