Search Continues for Missing Vt. Man Whose Vehicle Was Found Abandoned in NH

The search continues for a missing Vermont man who was last seen leaving a convenience store in New Hampshire on Sunday.

Police in New Boston, New Hampshire, said they located an abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of Lang Station on Greg Mill Road around 11 p.m. on Monday. They said Lang Station is known as a parking area for users of the New Boston Rail Trail.

The registered owner of the vehicle, 38-year-old Devin Whitham, of Saxtons River, Vermont, had been reported missing at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, and police said he is considered a "missing/endangered person." He has no known connections to the New Boston area.

New Boston is located west of Manchester, about 60 miles from Saxtons River.

Searches were conducted Monday and Tuesday by police on foot and in helicopters along the rail trail but Whitham was not located.

He is described as 5'11" tall, weighing about 270 pounds, with green eyes and partially bald.

Police released a surveillance photo of Whitham leaving a convenience store on Sunday morning. Police said they are not sure what he is holding in front of his face in the photo.

They couldn't find a better picture? It seems bizarre to me that the family couldn't provide a photo that shows him clearly.

ETA: okay, I see now that it's the last image of him before he disappeared. Leaving a convenience store.

The post by his wife makes me think that he left to commit suicide. It's as if she knows that he left on his own free will and she's begging him to come home.

Remains of Vermont man who went missing last year found in New Hampshire

Devin Whitham, 38, of Saxtons River, Vt., was reported to be missing and endangered last April due to his mental health. On April 26 of this year, a “shed hunter” found skeletal remains in a wooded area of Francestown Road in New Boston, N.H,, which have since been identified as belonging to Whitman, police said.

According to police, Whitham’s car was found abandoned at Lang Station along the New Boston rail trail on April 24, 2023. Police said foul play is not suspected in Whitham’s death but said the details of how he died are not being released at this time.

I thought about him a few weeks ago (before MDS was back). Thank you for the update, RBW. Very sad outcome.

Yeah, it broke my heart a lot. His last FB post (on his cover photo) was sad too. He was definitely depressed about the state of society - the current political divide and society's dependence on social media. Can't imagine killing myself over something so far out of my control. Very sad.

    Rest in peace, Devin...

You are talking to a woman who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom and chuckled at catastrophe.
