The boyfriend of Heather Kelley was indicted on a felony escape charge Tuesday, according to federal court documents obtained by News Channel 3 Friday.
He had been identified as a person of interest in Kelley's disappearance on Feb. 9.
Kelley's boyfriend, who will not be named at this time, was expected to remain in custody with the Federal Bureau of Prisons until at least April 26, according to a Jan. 11 reply sent by Judge Robert Jonker.
He was convicted of federal conspiracy to distribute and deal cocaine, and possession of a firearm in 2011, according to the indictment. He was also indicted for murder-to-hire, but the charge was later dropped.
He was part of the Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program, or KPEP, after being released from federal prison in July 2022, documents showed.
He was also working as a bus boy at the Park Club on Dec. 10, the day Kelley was last heard from, according to movement tracked by his GPS tether. The tether had died around 9:30 p.m. Dec. 10.
According to court documents, he returned to KPEP at approximately 2:45 a.m. the next day with what witnesses described as deep scratches on his chest and back.
