In addition, the defense’s assertion that detectives lied or withheld information from a prior judge to obtain search warrants was unfounded and does not support holding a separate hearing to challenge that evidence, Idaho 4th District Judge Steven Hippler decided.
In spite of allegations otherwise from Kohberger’s attorneys, police did not violate their client’s constitutional rights during their investigation into the November 2022 student stabbing deaths, he wrote in his long-awaited court orders.
It is good the judge didn't fall for the defense's arguments.

Hippler's directive came as a flurry of new motions were filed ahead of the August trial, including a sealed defense motion to take the death penalty off the table that cited autism spectrum disorder.
A trial is expected to begin Aug. 11 and last for more than three months. The judge has said no one would be allowed into the courtroom but that the open portions of the trial would be livestreamed from the court's YouTube page.

Panicked conversations between two surviving roommates in the off-campus home where four University of Idaho students were murdered were revealed in newly released text messages, shedding more light on the timeline that prosecutors aim to lean on in their case against the suspect.
The exchange took place nearly eight hours before the roommates called 911 to report Kernodle unconscious at the residence.
“I’m freaking out,” one roommate, Dylan Mortensen, wrote to the other, Bethany Funke.

The roommates struggled to tell the dispatcher their address and phone number, then saying Kernodle is unresponsive and they “saw some man in their house last night.”
The transcript reveals the students’ unfinished thoughts and panic over finding Kernodle’s unconscious body.
Were they intoxicated, also? I just can't understand how they can be so freaked out and not do anything for hours.

They might have been, but I am not sure. Though I do not understand why they didn't call 911 sooner, we have to consider these are young college students. They likely were scared to death and not sure what was going on. And if they were impaired in anyway, that could also explain things.
Oh yeah, they were all drunk. Reading those texts was upsetting.

Among a trove of new court documents released Wednesday, the accused mass killer’s defense has asked the judge to ban any clothing featuring the photos of victims Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
The defense also wants to ban any clothing referring to ‘shooting Mr. Kohberger’ or about the firing squad.
‘Mr. Kohberger respectfully requests that the Court’s guidance outline proper Courtroom decorum which discourages spectators from wearing T-shirts (e.g. T-shirts with a picture of the victim on them and the words “In Memory of” or T-shirts about shooting Mr. Kohberger or about the passage of Idaho’s firing squad legislation), buttons or other apparel with words, photos or artwork that can be observed by the jurors since such conduct poses a coercive threat to the jury’s ability to remain impartial,’ the defense filing states.
‘In court proceedings in Latah County a family member of victim K.G. wore a t-shirt to court related to the passage of Idaho’s firing squad legislation.’
During a court hearing in August 2023, one of Goncalves’ family members was seen sporting a shirt that read: ‘Justice for Kaylee Idaho House Bill 186 Shots Fired.’
Kohberger’s defense attorneys argue this ‘must not be allowed in any future courtroom proceedings’ because ‘trials must be free from a coercive or intimidating atmosphere.’
This marks only the latest bizarre demand from the defense after they asked the judge to ban the terms 'murder', 'bushy eyebrows' and 'psychopath' from the trial.
You have to hand it to his legal team...they are definitely creative. I don't see how they can possibly ban "murder" or "bushy eyebrows". I mean, he is charged with murder and he has some massively bushy eyebrows.
