Yikes, that is hardcore. He had a really bad gastrointestinal infection, which could have been caused by food poisoning (could be undercooked meat, etc.) or a site infection...like if he had a colostomy or something. The infection then led to necrotizing fasciitis, which is commonly known as the 'flesh eating' disease.
