Charlotte Sturgeon (29) was run over and killed in the airport parking lot by her husband, Shawn Sturgeon (38) who was intoxicated

I hope this is the best section for this.

This is in Utah where I live. This man got intoxicated at some point during their journey home. The wife was apparently strapping their child in in the back seat when her husband put the car in reverse, ran her over, and drug her under the car.

Oh my, how and why would he put the car in reverse? Why was he even behind the wheel? The one thing that I do not play about is drinking and driving. I don't care if you have a sip of a drink, you shouldn't drive. I also don't understand why we have legal limits for driving. It's not like you can test your blood alcohol level. It takes a lot for me to get drunk, but I do not drive if I've had a sip of alcohol. Jail for him, there's no excuse. I bet she tried to get him not to drive.

The representatives of a 29-year-old woman who police said was run over and killed by her drunken husband in a Salt Lake City International Airport parking garage in 2022 are suing the airline they say is responsible for overserving him alcohol, according to court documents.

The two representatives are suing Delta Air Lines for the wrongful death of Charlotte Sturgeon, who died of blunt force trauma, according to a medical examiner. They are also suing on behalf of Sturgeon’s minor child who witnessed the death, alleging that Delta negligently inflicted emotional distress upon the child.

They are suing for medical expenses, lost earnings, funeral costs, general damages and other costs.
Shawn Sturgeon was charged in 3rd District Court with one count of manslaughter, one count of automobile homicide, and one count of domestic violence in the presence of a child in connection with his wife’s death.

In July 2022, the charge of manslaughter was dismissed with prejudice, but Sturgeon was found guilty of automobile homicide as well as domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Two months later, he was sentenced to 1 to 15 years in the Utah State Prison for the automobile homicide, and up to 5 years for the domestic violence. The prison sentences are to be served consecutively, according to court documents.

Hum ~ the article said he was drinking before getting on the plane. I wonder where he was drinking? Was it at the airport? In the Delta lounge? He then had "at least" two drinks on the plane (we all know what high altitudes do when it comes to consuming alcohol and drugs).

If they are claiming they overserved him, how much is that really? Some people can have 2 drinks, with a low tolerance, and be really drunk. Yet some people can have a few drinks and be fine.

@Nic - agree. It will be difficult to prove Delta specifically over-served him if he was already pre-loaded up on alcohol before he went on the plane.

Bottom line, he got himself drunk and killed his wife. I am not sure how Delta is responsible for that.

There has to be some personal responsibility. IDK if you guys read the description of what they said happened and what he said/did in the link I posted above, but I think 60% of this was anger issues, not alcohol. Delta can't know if someone drank somewhere else if they are acting ok, and he obviously was or they wouldn't have let him board and certainly wouldn't have served him.

I feel like the only way to really prove they overserved him would be, they would have to have some video proof of him acting outright drunk and them still giving him drinks....or prove they gave him a crazy amount, like 10 drinks.
